OK... I'm getting barraged with comments from Custom Shop owners asking me to give the CS a shot at making this right. Ritoma, zSPECTREz, and Straycat113 in particular have made some good strong points. Hey Fender, you're lucky to have such loyal customers to go to bat for you. Straycat113, your comparisons to problem cars, and pointing out how when the cardiac patient monitor system we designed failed, people could die. Yeah, not quite as critical with a guitar huh ? I guess I'm too critical for initial quality when something costs say, maybe over a grand.

I'll stop the guesses again for now, and I think I'll take the CS to the little dealer down the road.

If they aren't authorized service, they can send it in for me. And I'll start thinking about a second CS to give the Custom Shop one more shot at getting it right the first time. I really was looking forward to collecting a few Custom Shops over the next couple years. Yeah, at the end of the day I'm still a huge Strat fan.

I'll update everybody as things (hopefully) progress.

markr01000, if anyone looks the fool in this issue it is you. Why don't you man-up and give Fender the chance to make it right instead of taking cheap shots at them in a public forum?

Woh...that's not a fair statement at all.

I am the consumer who paid 2X over a production unit to purchase the supposed higher quality Custom Shop and not only didn't get higher quality, I have problems right out of the box.

Cheap shots ? seriously ?
I'm not the fool who shipped this unit.

Like straycat113 said.."you sound like a good guy who is just a little heated at the moment". I think most people sympathize with your disappointment. I think where the majority of the disconnect is stemming from is the manner in which you're choosing to resolve it.

In the Grand scheme of things....a slightly out of position bridge...is really a minor flaw, that (although you may disagree) can happen as a result of "spirited" shipping...It's common and VERY easily fixed (with a screw driver)...with NO alterations required to make it right...Kind of like a neck shift. It's not like something major like poor finishing, bad fret job, twisted neck, cracked wood etc etc.

The only other fault that you describe is pups that you don't like...which isn't exactly Fender's fault.

All of that said...you did pay a good amount of hard earned money for a guitar that should be right...AND...Fender WILL make it right and readjust your trem/bridge issue at NO cost to you.

I don't think you're wrong in expecting to recieve a guitar in proper working condition....BUT....at the same time, to be so rigid as to not allow the problem to be resolved and instead stage a dramatic (although entertaining  ) "Giveaway" isn't exactly right either.

Once that guitar leaves the factory fender has NO control over how rough it's handled or what climate conditions it will be exposed to...Even the very best of setups can get knocked out of wack...things shift...in some cases break! Sure, some flaws can/do occur at the factory too...There is NO manufacturer that is exempt from that. It's NOT a perfect world. The important thing here is FENDER WILL MAKE IT RIGHT.

All you have to do is let it happen brother :D ...slap a new set of pups in there (That you know you like this time) and then set the music FREE :D

I honestly cant think of any guitar I was 100% satisfied with from new. I expect to make changes. There's a horrible truth to guitar ownership. Guitars do not travel well. Whats the humidity like in Florida at the moment compared to oh say Cali?

Mark on your trem alignment issue, can you please post a picture from the top of the guitar showing the problem.
As far as I know the JB trem unit is based on the American Standard trem. Consequently it has quite a alarming trem arm angle, which JB exploits to get that massive pitch range from the trem.
This causes the trem block to be machined differently from the deluxe's 2point system and traditional synchronized trems.

I'm hearing you all load and clear.
Maybe it is too harsh to just give it away and give up on the Custom Shop.
I really wanted to start collecting CS units.

zSPECTREz and nikninja, I particularly appreciate your comments here.
Yeah, I know the bridge is a quick easy adjustment we've all had lots of them apart, (thanks, I am aware of the deeper angle), and either the pickups have a wiring problem etc. or I just get a new set of traditional single coils and put 'em in. It's not the end of the world. You're right, my expectations were very high for this guitar. Paying 2X, not getting it right the first time, and the less than helpful customer support call soured this situation more than it needed to, and caused me to lose faith in the CS. But you guys are telling me they do care, and they will make it right. I'll give them a shot purely on your enthusiastic support of Fender. I am, after all, a die hard Strat fan.

I'll say it again...
Fender, you are very fortunate to have loyal fans like the owners on this forum.

I'll try to get over to the chain store in Orlando this weekend.

So, if it turns out to require a repair (not just a bridge adjustment) I can request that it go back to CS for service ?

Hmm.....

Somebody at Fender must have called the chain store I bought from.
The sales associate just called me to see "how my Custom Shop was working out".

Thank you whoever did that.
