Then this neck was taken from a Larry Brooks Masterbuilt "Blackie" Clapton used for his Japanese tour in 1999!

The following year Eric played the same guitar at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel during his induction at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in March 6 and the Later shows with Jools Holland and Bobby Whitlock in April 12. It was during that time he started using the Vintage Noiseless pickups....

I guess the Daphne Blue was inspired by the famous "Giffin" Strat EC used in the mid-1980s!

No! It was a JW Black one. The Black Larry Brooks Strat was sold in the auction.

It isn't. That neck went on the Black Strat that was sold in the auction. This one was made by JW Black.

I have seen similar comments elsewhere on this forum, however I do not believe that the '24 Nights' Blackie (i.e. the one with the flame neck by Mike Stevens and the body by J.W. Black) was auctioned in 1999. The one that was auctioned was its companion, called the 'smokers guitar' which has a cigarette holder at the back of the headstock.

Check this video, where both guitars are featured briefly:

It was auctioned, Robert. The flamey black one (the 24 nights one) was Lot 86 in the 2004 sale, the Larry Brooks black one (mentioned by chromeface) was Lot 69 and the Smokers edition was Lot 58 in the 1999 sale.

The black Strat we're talking about here - which stipe_mills is replicating - with the super-figured neck (Whitehouse 98, Tsunami, Cream 2005) seems to be the only black one he kept - which is what someone mentioned earlier having been told so by Todd Krause :)

Hi Lefty,

Ah, that's a shame, I'd always hoped we would once again see the '24 Nights' guitar in action again....

Thanks for clearing the matter out. The thing is... lot 86 in the 2004 sale is omitted on the Christie's website. It is reported as being sold on Whereseric however, so probably it was sold indeed.

Of the history of the Cream 2005 strat I'm aware. I've been considering to have one replicated too, however since the neck is an older neck with a finish that can not be provided any longer I have abstained from the project.

It's actually hard for Eric to recreate the sound of that particular era as he no longer uses Soldano amplifiers, which are necessary to reproduce the full thick rich distortion for which the SLO-100 is famous. He still uses a Blackie with Lace pickups, but mostly for slide. You're out of luck, because EC's actual setup makes for a totally different sound.

Lot 61 refers to a Robin custom 6-string/mando double-neck built by Dave Wintz for SRV and his brother Jimmie.

IMHO that is the one with the most beautiful flame neck Clapton has ever played. The way it looks in the picture, all worn and grey just makes it beyond cool. :)

Hmm, maybe EC still has them in store somewhere... If not, I should assume that one phone call to Mike S. will suffice.
