We just had Cliff and the Shadows here in Cape Town for a two great shows.

I was fascinated seeing him on stage using several of what looked like the same model Red Strat.

His guitar tech would bring on and change his guitar every 3 or 4 songs.

I was fortunate to catch Brian Bennet backstage and he took me to see Hank's guitar setup.

Whilst he wouldnt let me touch his guitars, I did notice that there were three identical red strats each of which had his signature on the front of the headstock and bore the custom shop logo on the back.

Is Fender now making these Hank Marvin signatures for sale??

This is not a Hank Marvin signature model but a fancy limited-edition version of '56 Strat NOS (based on a Custom Classic V-Neck Strat) with Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups, 5-way switching and a 22-fret AA grade birdseye maple neck with gloss on front of fingerboard and satin finish on the back. Other features include medium-jumbo fretwire, a select alder body with a Fiesta Red nitrocellulose lacquer finish, Eric Clapton's favorite soft V neck profile, gold hardware and Sperzel Trim-Lok locking tuners.

The pictured guitar is not mine.

Hello Caleb,

I'm sure we discussed that before in the Strat Forum
HBM Strats were dealers' order from Arbiter UK at that time so they were not Tribute Strats as such.
Let me find the original thread which was informationwise fruitful.

Chromeface,
Forget about that one...
Nice but no relation to HBM's ones

Hello Alain,

Many thanks for yur reply.

I do recall the thread and also the beautiful example of the early issue in your collection.

I just thought that seeing as how Hank is using these guitars on their last reunion concert that there may be a chance for this signature guitar to be issued once again , but " officially" .

Regards
CBW

Hank actually uses Kinman pickups on his Fiesta Red Strat.

The Vintage Noiseless pickups on this Custom 56 NOS LTD are the closest thing you'd expect from Hank's signature sound.

The Fender Custom Shop has made a few Hank Marvin signature Stratocasters in the early-to-mid-1990s. The first prototypes sported a trio of Gold Lace Sensor pickups.

Apparently Hank was not satisfied with the sound from those and the final product was available with a DiMarzio FS-1 at the bridge and two Seymour Duncans at middle and neck.

For The 50th Anniversary Tour, after testing several brands, including Kinmans, HBM chose The Fender Custom Shop 54 pick ups for both his Strats ( the third one is a back up) which he thought were the best for that vintage sound everybody was expecting.

This was the last of a long series of signature guitars:

Guitars from the previous batches are regularly found on the second hand market in U.K.

Yes Alain, I actually found that website yesterday but of course all 50 went almost as soon as they were issued :-(

I must check the second hand sites for one that may make it's way onto the market.

Now I'm not suggesting you mod any of your beauties but have you heard the BareKnuckles Apache set.
http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/ZS-apache.html

I fully recommend their Sultans set for Knopfler sounds. Very accurate tonaly.
