I'm a guy who often strikes the low E too hard and gets a buzz. The problem is that on my (Mexican) Stratocaster, "too hard" is any strum friskier than "ginger."

So, of course, I raise the action (shimming nut and/or raising bridge), but anything above a minimal action on this axe throws off the tuning on the lower frets -- as it will on any guitar, right?

So don't they make any electric guitars which allow an action of more than a millimeter on the low E? Yes, it would require an adjustment of all the fret positions to compensate for the tightening of the string which the longer bend of the string would impose. But maybe some luthiers already make necks with said fret positions. Anyone have a clue? Brands?

As the title of this thread suggests, this "question" of mine may have no answer. In which case, I invite anyone who has similar thoughts to just appreciate in the sympathy that I have for you.

Welcome to the Forum.

Are you adjusting the intonation when you raise the action?

Adjusting the intonation? You mean with the control knobs?

Read your onwer's manual on how to set up your guitar, conveniently provided for you here:

Or pay someone to do it for you.

Sounds like you need to bite the bullet and pay to have your guitar set up for you.

You dont ever shim a regular nut, not ever. Not even if the Queen orders it. That will throw your low fret intonation (adjustment of string length that makes the frets intune with the open string) out a mile.

Have you shimmed the neck, if so remove the shim. Then take your guitar off to a tech and pay him £40 to get it playing right.

MCMLXXXIV (1984) That is an offer that is far too good to refuse. If I were you mate, I'd be in the car and on my way now.

Nevin

You'll never know how happy I am that the Queen has never told me to shim my nuts.

I reckon I'd end up with my head on a spike on towerbridge

For more reasons than one.
