Is true that only 1954 of those guitars were made?

Mine's serial has four digits and starts with '5.'

Hey Tiglath,

I say NO WAY...the actual number has to be FAR less.

Remember now, that they only took orders for that guitar for a 1 yr. period. I have know idea how far in advance they started preparing...But for the sake of argument...let's just say they started actually building them a year in advance...built all through the year they took orders...then continued to build all through the following year...Let's say...a total of 3 yrs (36 months).

They would have had to push out nearly 2 complete Masterbuilt guitars EVERYDAY (1.78 guitars actually)...365 days a year...for 3 full years to reach that number....That's on top of all of the other guitars they built.

Now, I've had the good fortune of visiting the CS...seeing what, and how they do things...They DO work hard...BUT....I doubt if even Santa's Elves could accomplish that amazing feat!

Think they were limited to the number of orders Fender received in 2004

And from what I heard, they received a LOT more than they originally thought they would

They were "not" number 1 to 1954 or anything like that

It much depends on many master builders were involved, and for how long they were making them, probably before 2004, during, and after. Also one could reasonably speculate that with constant specs much of the work could have been done by others than the master builders, with enough involvement from the master builder to still deserve the MB attribute. The number seems to be a national secret, so we'll never know, other that by some whispered deathbed confession... What number do you have in mind?

Another question, discussed ad nauseam in the other forums is whether the pickups were Ybarra, and if so whether they were Ybarra wound, or hand-wound. Are there any initials on them? I never looked at mine. Some promotional material mentions the pups being Ybarra's, but there is also evidence to dispute it.

All big, fundamental, and vexing questions...

Don't know if it's relevant, but there was a run of 1954 40th Anniversary "1954" Strats built in 1994, but the 2004 50th Anniversary Masterbuilts were never built as a run of 1954.

Maybe we can make a fair estimation of how many a single Master Builder produces in one year by comparing serial nrs of that builder from an early January piece to a late December one?

I'd guess closer to 2600 were made.
