I am going to get a LTD EC Guitar but I am thinking Masterbuilt. Is the an advantage to having it masterbuilt or am I just wasting money. I already priced it and it will take 10 months for Todd Krause to do it.

Todd Krause is the main Masterbuider of EC' Strats.
If you can afford it go for it.
They are simply perfect guitars.

I can aford it and the price I feel is reasonable. I just can,t come up with a reason not to go the masterbuilt way. The wife is even OK with it which kind of amazes me.

Truer words were never spoken :D

Masterbuilt is the only way to go! Todd's guitars are devine...Mark Kendrick does an equally fine job (I've owned several of his as well). I'm sure every Masterbuilder in the shop could do one equally as amazing for you too....if you wanted a shorter wait time?

Congrats! - But be warned - These things have a strange way of multiplying, when you're not looking

Both Grigio Grey and Daphne Blue had the TBX tone circuit. It's not the case for Eric's own guitars, which use a standard tone pot.

This is very confusing, because since their introduction in 2004, all Custom Shop Claptons (Teambuilt and Masterbuilt) used the standard tone as a stock feature. I believe the TBX has been added in 2009 only for the Teambuilt models.

actually, the Teambuilt models have had the TBX stock since the inception of the model. I do not know if they currently do or not.

EC's personal axes are Masterbuilt.

Subsequently, a Masterbuilt EC Strat had a normal tone.

Todd isn't the only person who builds Clapton's guitars. Many of his personal axes are built by Mark Kendrick, Art Esparza, Youri Shiskov and Denis Galuszka.

i never said anything about EC's guitars. i was referencing your erroneous comment about Teambuilt stock tone pots.

Todd is the only person who currently builds for EC, and has been the sole builder for quite some time.

You remember the running around in circles we had about this issue about 18 months ago because there was a conflict in the language of the CS products description and a CS (then Teambuilt guitar had been received fitted with a TBX). When the dust settled we were given to understand that only the Masterbuilt guitar has a conventional tone control because that's the way EC gets them. I would expect that this would not vary among builders. I would also expect that if you ordered a Masterbuilt guitar in EC Gray it would also come so equipped and sans the neck plate on the LTD because it would not be part of that series, finish notwithstanding.

Another note: A member on another thread claims to have personally observed a street price spread of almost $1000 on this LTD guitar...the range he quoted was between $2200 and $3500. He offered this up as advice to a prospective buyer that one should 'shop around. This a a SoCal area person if my memory serves me. Can such a price finding be so??

I too have seen that spread
The LTD EC Grey, and Daphne can be had for around $2300 quite easily
Other dealers have a larger sales pitch, and that pitch is going to set you back an addition $1000 or so

If you are talking Masterbuilt orders, the spread is significantly higher.
I was previously working on a Master build order, and the spread was
a diff of $1800, same order.
Pays to shop around
