I just pulled the trigger on a "97 Custom Shop American Classic and was curious what everyone thinks about them. It was beautiful, minty, and in my price range. Can't wait to get my hands on her. So, what do I have to look forward to? Good or bad! I want to hear it!

I know it has Texas Specials, pearloid pickguard, and a nice birdseye neck, but was wondering if there were any other advantages to it being a custom Shop guitar. I've read it has a catalyzed urethane finish. Is that a specialized paint, or is that standard on most guitars?

This guitar has been renamed Custom Classic in 2003 and the Texas Specials had been replaced by a trio of Modern Classic single-coils which included a hot bridge pickup with a custom inductance steel plate.

For a short time until their discontinuation in 2009, all Custom Classic Stratocasters came with a large headstock, Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups and an S-1 switch.

Dave "MoonFace" Murray (Iron Maiden) uses two Custom Classic Stratocasters in Black and Vintage White. These guitars are modified with Seymour Duncan HotRails, an aged white pearloid pickguard and an original Floyd Rose locking tremolo (shown here with his Vintage White Strat in 2006).
