I was wondering what level of customization can you get from Fender's CS? In other words, what if I just wanted an American Standard Precision bass with just a non-standard finish (say, a natural finish with a black pickguard and maple neck), everything else being the same as a production model? If so, what might something like that cost?

The only way to know precisely is to fill a a CS order form at a Fender CS Authorized Dealer.

Well, for a number of reasons, that's not going to happen. If anyone can give me an answer? I'm not going to do this, I can't afford it right now, I'm basically just curious. This is something I had considered at one point, I may yet at some point in the future do this.

Alain is right....The only way to know (for sure) is to put in the specs and get a quote through a dealer.

It's FREE to you. Getting a quote is just that...a quote, NO obligation to buy....Until you're ready.

In fact I would highly suggest getting several quotes...since prices can and do vary from dealer to dealer.

I may not be explaining myself, I'm not necessarily looking for an exact price quote per se, What I'm asking is, thru the Custom Shop, can I get a non-standard finish on what otherwise is basically a production model? Can I get an American Standard Precision Bass with a natural finish, maple board, and black pickguard thru the CS?
Again, not really concerned about the price, a ballpark figure would have been nice to know, but that's not my primary interest.

A short answer would be "yes", but you'll be paying CS price for it (it also comes with CS timber & workmanship). If you're looking for a small upcharge on regular model price then CS may not be the best option.
