Every time, I am playing my George Fullerton 50th Anniversary 1957 Stratocaster I feel in heaven. :D The guitar was built by master builder Jason Smith.

What could be the reason for such an awesome Stratocaster? Excellent wood selection, outstanding craftsmanship, etc.?

Perhaps it the pure guitar, close to it's original inception, and one of its designers.

In 1997 G&L made a couple of changes to their guitar models, including the George Fullerton Signature. First, the 3-bolt micro-tilt neck was replaced with a conventional 4-bolt type. Ironically, the 3-bolt design used by G&L was designed and patented by George himself. Second, the headstock shape, originally found on the Skyhawk and S-500 of the late 1980s and carried through on the Legacy and Fullerton, was redesigned to be more asymmetrical. The original headstock was jokingly called a "Christmas tree" shape by some G&L employees. Apparently, it wasn't "Fendery" enough. The guitar shown above is a typical example of a late-style Fullerton with options not available on the early versions such as 2-tone sunburst finish, tinted birdseye maple neck, pearloid pickguard, aged white pickup covers and control knobs. Yet, the essence of the guitar that George helped design in the 1950s is still present in the current version of the George Fullerton Signature guitar.

Great photo documentaries throughout. dude. Appears that we've found our very own Ansel Adams. 8)

I've never quite cared for the redesigns of the bridge and headstock on the G&L's, or heavily figured maple necks. This one bears a close resemblance to George's personal custom build guitar which has appeared in the Forum and I am sure you will resurrect a photo of for comparison.
On the whole, the guitar in Mike's hands is everything a Stratocaster was as I knew it in my 'teens, and IMHO essentially should remain. Perfect in every way.

Nobody else owns one of the approx. 150 existing George Fullerton 50th Anniversary 1957 Stratocasters?

That was a $5K combo investment and had to be an attractive juice vs. squeeze for someone. Personally, I love the guitar, but $4K for the Gilmour NOS was a more attractive purchase.

The mix of a great guitar with a "regular" amp doesn't attract me so much.
I'm not in a need for more amps...

I'm also lucky enough to own one of the Fullerton 50th anniversary '57 Strat sets Stratocasterdude.
I also did not need another amp, but I can tell you as others have said, this set gets back to basics & together they are a perfect match!
And hey, having George's sig on the coa is kinda cool too :)

Could you tell who is the Master builder of your guitar?

Did you had the chance to compare 2 of these guitars regarding sound and quality?
