After much contemplation, research, and consultation with friends with more knowledge on vintage guitars than myself I have finally placed my custom shop order for a 59 reissue P-bass. I decided on a shoreline gold finish and upgraded the body to a lighter weight alder, and the neck to quatersawn "A" flame with a rosewood finger board. The custom shop suggested staying with the anodized pickguard, but I think I'm going to change it to tortoiseshell. The bass will be strung with Fender 9050ML's as these are my favorite stings right now. I will post pictures on Talkbass for anyone that wants to see it when it arrives. Let the four month waiting period begin!

Thanks Mike, I will certainly let you know my opinion when I receive the bass. I am expecting this bass to be my dream bass, and if its as good as my Custom Shop limited 64 J-bass I will be happy. I almost hate to bring this up, but there is another discrepancy between the price list and the spec sheet regarding the case.
The price list says its accompanied by a tweed case.
The spec from the custom shops website says its a Deluxe Black Hardshell Case with Black Interior.
I'd REALLY prefer the Black case. Is it possible to get the black case if is not what comes with the 59 p-bass? I think mine is considered a one off at this point. thanks, Rob

P-Basses made during the first months of 1959 came with the 1-piece maple neck/fretboard, as shown on the picture below. The 2-piece maple neck with the rosewood fretboard has been introduced between the middle and the fall of that year. In 1960, the1-ply gold anodized pickguard has been replaced by a 4-ply brown shell, with the 3-ply white following in 1961.

Thanks for the info! I decided the bass with be an Olympic white with gold anodized pick guard. The neck will be quatersawn from "A" grade flame maple with a dark rosewood fingerboard on a select lightweight body. Not exactly period correct, but close enough for me as this will be a player not a collector piece.
