What's the status with these? Musician's Friend is calling them '61 reissues, the website here says they're still '59 reissues, and there are no pictures! Are they for real? Available now? Soon?

So no one knows the answer to this?

(1) What is this bass? Is the current CS P-bass still called a '59 (like the Fender website says) with different features than last year's '59 or is it a '61 reissue (like Musicians Friend's website says) and Fender just hasn't updated their website yet?

(2) Is it available?

Thanks! :D

Hey Mike, here's the narrative from the MF website:

Quote:
Fender Custom Shop 1961 P Bass Relic 4-String Electric Bass

This exclusive Fender 1961 P-Bass Relic Bass combines classic tonality, custom-designed appointments, premiere craftsmanship, and impeccable electronics to produce the undeniable Precision Bass sound that made the electric bass guitar what it is today. Designed originally by Leo Fender and brought to market in 1951, the Precision Bass was the first to earn widespread attention and use. Today, the P Bass is still revered as an essential instrument, and has stood the test of time, becoming a true American legend in the process.

This Fender electric bass starts with a select alder body, offering full sound and toughness to the low end. The rosewood neck and fretboard bring out ample tone, while the custom bolt-on neck presents deep, lasting sustain. The oval-C neck shape, coupled with thin skin nitrocellulose lacquer neck finish makes dancing across the bass's 20 vintage-style frets a breeze. The bass pickup that invented "funk" is still virtually unchanged today with the P Bass pickup. Other appointments include vintage nickel bass tuners, rolled fret edges, custom tortoise pickguard, chrome plating and pickup shield, and a lacquered body finish. Finally, the '61 bass was given Fender's "Relic" treatment—built to show years of natural wear and tear; with nicks, scratches, worn finish, rusty hardware and aged plastic parts.

I guess that the bass you've mentioned above looks pretty much to this one:

Not sure if it's the original 1961 P or the Custom Shop replica of this bass.

Here's the perfect companion to the 1961 Precision, a beautiful "stacked-knob" 1961 Jazz Bass with the same classic sunburst finish and tortoise guard of the time.

Note: The chrome neck ashtray pickup cover is missing.

Could you offer both the '61 basses as a matching set? It's also possible to get the '61 P with a Jazz bridge pickup and a 3-knob layout (2 volumes/1 tone) with the top-mounted jack?

Because I saw the Custom Shop releasing a matching set of '66 P and J in the stunning Firemist Gold finish. Both basses had bound dot-inlaid round lam rosewood fretboards and oval tuning machines.
