So my new Custom Shop '60s NOS strat was delivered this past Saturday and she is amazing. Considering this is my first expensive guitar, I looked her over and noticed a scuff that took some of the finish off and a tiny dent on the headstock. It wasn't done by me so it must have happened at the shop I bought it from while they were setting her up.

I am really not sure what do with that. Am I being crazy about the whole thing? I am really debating on whether I should get it repaired or just leave it as a 'character' mark. Since I've never had such an expensive piece before, I am not sure how to react. Please help me!!

It would always niggle at me, I'd prob take it back and see what they have to say, any dings on my guitar have to be done by my hands alone and I only have a AM standard, I'd weep if it was on a custom shop.
Hope you get satisfaction, best of luck.

Those are my thoughts exactly. Problem is, store is in Chicago, I am in California. I bought it from a Custom Shop preffered dealer on Fender's website.

I thought about it over and over again, and the more I think, the more I want to kick my self in the nuts for being such a b*tch.

My wife even wanted to smack me for being stupid. Its a small scuff and I need to get over it. I am sure during the life of this guitar, expensive or not, it will get dings, scratches, scuffs, etc. So whatever.

I mean people PAY for someone to dent and scracth up their guitars, so I decided to open "Turmoil'd Relic Service". Just send me your guitar along with a $100 and I'll ding it up for you ;)

Cheers guys!

Everyone has different views regarding this situation but I would feel like you do. If you are laying out some serious scratch for a CS ax and it comes with a ding and knock in the headstock I would not be to happy. Yes as you play it sooner or later something is bound to happen but as you stated by your own hands.I dont think anyone would want to drive a new car out of the showroom with a big scratch on it.

Know exactly what you mean & how you feel Turmoil, theres only so much compassion a wife is willing to give in these cases, a threat of being smacked in the mouth by my wife usually has the same effect :oops: :lol:
Take it easy mate , and buy your missus sumfin nice 8)

@straycat113

I agree with you to a degree. I did get the axe deeply discounted, with free overnight shipping and didn't pay sales tax. So have a little scuff/ding is ok with me in this case.

If I would have paid full price, tax and all that jazz I'd be singing a different tune.

Turmoil was it discounted for being a scratch and dent? Maybe you did not see it when you bought it as most places offer discounts with new guitars in this category though a lot of them dont have a mark . Sometimes the case is a bit damaged or something to the likes. Anyway glad to see you seemed to settle down and are getting over it.

Yeah I feel better. The first scratch always hurts the most. Now I can stop babying her and just play.

No scratch and dent. Price was agreed on before they received it from the custom shop. The scuff/dent either happened while they were setting her up or at the custom shop. No matter, there will be plenty more dents/scratches in her future I am sure. It's just that first one that makes you realize it's not a museum piece rather something you are suppose to use.

If you got a scratch discount you're on your own....if they dinged it I'd hold them accountable. Too many don't speak up..... No charm in someone else beating up your guitar....

EXACTLY. You paid GOOD money for a NOS guitar, not a Relic, and it should be FLAWLESS. Plain and simple. Call the dealer ASAP!!
