An interesting history, but still aesthetically impoverished as far as I'm concerned. If I had one of these things I'd sell it at the earliest opportunity... none of its "features" have any discernible function unless you fancy more length in your E, A and D strings. I still can't find any explanation for the contour on the front except that the prototype had one. Perhaps that's why it didn't make it to production. Come to think of it, I feel this way about most guitars associated with SRV... the man could certainly make a beautiful racket, but visually... not for me.

Im a hugh fan of reverse headstock strats. The tone changes dramaticly with the E A D strings been longer the tension is affectid so the tone from the bass strings is far more punchier and intense and the treble side is under more tension so they cut through and sing allot more. Coupled with reverse staggered poles on the pickups it's a great combination. The colour I agree but it's supposadly bad lighting because it's said to be Olympic White. My favourite colour but I hate the front body scoop. I can imagin these guitars not fetching the price that people would expect for a prototype. But saying that 25 is as limited as a limited run can be. Ide never heard of or scene one untill now

I can well imagine that the reverse headstock makes for a good playing experience... I didn't check to see if the guitar had reversed pickups as well; perhaps I should have said that I don't see the point of a Hendrix-inspired Strat without the controls and tremolo on the upper portion of the body. I don't think it would be necessary to have the upside-down body as well... but if it did, it would make sense to relocate the belly contour to the back of the side with the short horn. To leave the body right side up, but with an unnecessary (and ugly) contour on the front... it just looks like they put it together and thought "whoah... that ain't gonna work..."

I'm all for a Hendrix-style Strat for right-handed players, but this doesn't fit the bill in my opinion.

Hmmmm not sure about that. The colour is awfull. And why is the front contoured

read the link I provided and maybe you'll find out.

that color is Olympic White, but in certain light like the picture, it looks cream. I personally love it. it plays well (played one only once, but it was one of the original 25 from 1980)
Maybe I'll find out!! Relax man I said each to there own. What pups are init?

they basically are like FCS '69s, they're listed as "Grey Bobbin" pickups. so I'd assume they are just masterbuilt versions of the '69s. the original I played wasn't too sweet sounding like '69s, but still sounded amazing.

cs69s I love them. I have a set in my strat. I've heard loads of reviews from people saying there a pain when settin the height. Wolf tones past the 12 fret but when lowered they sound really weak at the nut end. I've never had any problems like this so to anyone Reading who's interested set them up to fender vintage pickup height specs

DUDE! wow, man! that's awesome to have a Masterbuilder on the forum! welcome.

thanks for clearing that up, man. It was you who built them, so I'd assume you'd know lol just curious, how much input did J Mayer have on the project?
