Thanks for the picture of the back of the head stock. Most likely I'll never get to see one personally.

Congrats too on the new Axe! I bought my first Strat 5 months ago (have played mostly Ibanez) but the Strat has a fell that a blues guitar should have. After I bought the guitar, I purchased the Stratocaster Chronicles book and it is a must read. CD included with different types of Strat sounds played by Greg Koch along with interviews with Leo Fender.

Greg will be doing a clinic here next week.

Enjoy

I have the EC Gray..... classy guitar, not doubt, but I think the pickguard that came on it is pretty boring and cheap...It even bows up a bit above the 6th string.

Wondering if changing it out for something else would ruin the value????

Whoah! Don't change the pickguard on it, man! I think the 1 ply pickguard is part of the charm of the instrument, particularly since it only has 8 mounting screws. It looks so much better than those regular 11 screw 3 ply guards, which looks rather busy to my eye. Then again its a personal matter....

I always loosen the screws a tad immediately after the purchase, in most cases this solves the problem of bowing at the edge.

If that does not help you can remove the pickguard and stick some scotchtape to the inside of the pickguard, so that the guard will slightly bow up in the middle (i.e. near the pickups). This will then compensate the bowing at the edges of the guard.

I would think so, in that the grey and the blue are a special run....limited edition guitar. The Clapton Signature series guitar was conceived out of the old Blackie with improvements in electronics. The neck was based on the old guitar though the radius went to a 9.5 an additional fret was added, and the fingerboard design changed. It is essentially a '57 Stratocaster, shares all the vintage characteristics of that year including the bridge, trem mass block (though 'stopped') and pickguard. Suggest you leave it as is and enjoy it as it was designed. .

The Clapton Strat can reproduce all of Eric's trademark sounds from the mid-1960s to the present. However, you should note that EC played a Roland guitar synthesizer for a short time in the mid-1980s ("The Pros & Cons" with Roger Waters in 1984, "Behind The Sun" and "Edge Of Darkness" albums in 1985 are some highlights of his synth guitar work).

I have the "Behind The Sun" CD and I've tried to play the "Never Make You Cry" track from that album on a regular electric. I was not satisfied about the result and I'm seriously thinking about a possible resurrection of that song on Clapton's future world tours, as he sold the Candy Apple Red Roland G-505 synth guitar for a charity auction at Christies in 1999. I'm wondering if it's possible to order a Clapton "Roland-Ready" signature model with a built-in GK3 MIDI pickup, as EC has already resurrected a good selection of tracks from the BEHIND THE SUN album over the years: "Forever Man", "She's Waiting" and "Same Old Blues".

In an interview with Dan Forte in 1985, Clapton said that the G-505 was a source of inspiration. Actually none of his personal guitars is equipped with a Roland synthesizer pickup.

Which is not my case...

Townsend plays a Clapton modified for acoustic-electric, Don't see any reason why the Custom Shop couldn't build you anything you wanted.....for the coin. :?

Not sure if EC could order a similar guitar from his personal luthiers. He'll probably need a GR-700 floor unit in order to use the Roland MIDI pickup.

Clapton sold the MIDI equipment that came with the G-505 controller.

Not only a regular Ansel Adams, but the William Sapphire of Eric Clapton.

It would probably mean "Forget about naming it an EC Strat"

Alain, I think that you can cover the entire Clapton repertoire with your candy green EC signature, including the famous synth guitar ballad "Never Make You Cry" from BEHIND THE SUN with the help of the Roland GK2A MIDI pickup.

However, I'm afraid that's will not be the case for Eric. If he decides to resurrect that song on his future world tours, he'll probably need to told his personal luthiers to have the GK3 MIDI pickup fitted on one of his guitars and acquire all the necessary equipment in order to play those famous synth guitar lines.

Think I'll pull that CD and have a listen.
