Hmm, interesting that you prefer the Lace Sensors. Those pickups are really the one thing that annoy me on that strat; to my ear they sound cold and trebly.

How ears differ. To mine, the Lace Sensors are beefier.

Grigio Grey is identical to Pewter, but slightly darker. Here's the 1989 Pewter you're mentioning:
According to historian A.R.Duchossior, the finish was originally labeled 'anthracite' and then changed to 'pewter'. Don't know if the original color was actually closer to the 'grigio'. However, the prototype, whose picture adorns the cover of his book, actually appears darker than my guitar.
Doc

I think it is a myth that the grey color was changed for the definite model. I have a veeery old VHS tape of Clapton playing with Dire Straits at the Concert for Nelson Mandela, I believe that was June 1988. Eric plays both the prototype and his first definite model (the one with the fabulously beautiful flame neck). There is no discernable difference in the color whatsoever. The picture on the cover of Duchossiors book is just very dark; look at the maple neck, that is very dark too. When you look at footage of Clapton playing the instrument in concert the neck is rather white.

From what I understand from other messages is that the grigio is a bit darker than Pewter.

Man...you sure dig deep. That was a sad time in his life. Around the time he lost Conor.

He lost Conor, but feels very happy to have 4 girls (Ruth, Ella May, Sophie Belle and Julie Rose)!

They are beautiful, aren't they. Do you own his CD"Going Home"? Very different for Clapton, but a wonderful, family oriented collection of songs.

"Back Home", not "Going".

I do not own the CD, but I found on "Revolution" a brief return to his reggae roots with a subtle hint of pop.

That "Back Home" track is a very tasty and soulful acoustic ballad. Saw Clapton playing the song in late 2005 with a "Bellezza Bianca" when he appeared on a MSNBC live broadcasting show to promote the album and in 2006 with a regular Martin acoustic during his 2006-2007 world tours.

A photo of Slowhand with the sunburst 000-042M. This shot was taken during his "short hair" days circa 2006/07.

Here's the perfect "electric" companion to the 000-42M acoustic. Not exactly the original "Brownie" of the Derek and the Dominos period, but a Custom Shop '56 NOS Strat used during the Hootenanny blues shows with Jools Holland in 2004 (Little Queen of Spades, Stop Breakin' Down).

Note: this beauty has the whammy bar installed. Eric's guitar had the bridge blocked off.
