What for?

Incidentally, I always thought that *that* court case was a bit rich considering a part of *that* company offered a Strat copy for years.

They don't need to. Fender have their own iconic, functional and beautiful shapes and there is no apparent need to copy other companies' offerings.

Fender tends to lead; others largely follow.

If we redefine "Fender" to mean the Fender musical instruments corporation they have Les Paul-ish guitars in the Guild Aristocrat/M-series/Nightbird/Bluesbird family and the DeArmond M-series. No longer in production, mind you but check out vintage guitar sites such as GBase http://gbase.com/default.aspx and Vintage Master http://www.vintagemaster.ch/index.cfm
if you're interested. Also Gretsch has similar designs in the Jet-series.

I don't think fender will ever copy les paul shapes... moreover fender doesn't want to be sued like PRS has been with their Les Paul shaped guitar

Shure they do. Gibson/Epiphone has made many attempts to attract Fender customers over the years with Fender-style intruments including a Tele copy with an Explorer headstock.

If you scroll down a bit you'll see a few example of Epiphone Strats.

The ESP Eclipses (Les Paul shape) are awesome. So are the ESP Teles. I prefer thems over the Fenders. I just thinks tthey sounds better and are a better deal for the price.
