I have a CS 60 NOS and it doesn't have the metal spacer on the string guide. I saw the same in a lot of other time machine series strats. Is there any reason for that?
As I could checked on internet, all original vintage 1960 Stratocasters have it and American Vintage 62 reissues have it too.
I thougth time machine series was exact (or almost) reproductions of the original models but it seems I was wrong?

Fender used the string tree without spacer from 1956 until 1959. In that particular year a metal spacer was added. Maybe a lot of players at the time removed it because it makes the bending more easy. I guess it depends on having a Time Machine (100% time correct) or a cs 1960 with modern appointments( 9,5 radius, 6105 fret wire). I have the latter and don't have a metal spacer either.

A good question for Mike though.

My arguement about the N.O.S. 1960 Strat is that they make it with a white pickguard. That is not historically correct.Between late 1959 to 1965 the pickguards were a greenish/grey color due to the celluloid material they were made of.As these pickguards aged, they yellowed making them look minty green today.I have seen many color photos taken during that era of those Strats when they were brand new which proves this. The custom shop has been overlooking this basic and important visual detail for many years now and yet claim to make a perfect replica. It's a little frustrating.
