Hi There,

I need a little Help

many Years ago I bought a Fender Jazz Bass in Shell Pink on eBay. Now I´m going to sell the Bass because i would buy a the FENDER 50TH ANNIVERSARY JAZZ BASS. The Stamp on the Neck and Body says it is a Custom Shop Bass. The Serial says it is an American Vintage..... Please help me what kind of Instrument I got. Sorry for my bad English I´m from Germany

Best Regards, Horschti

Horschti,
Your bass is absolutely an original Custom Shop Bass, an early one in fact! It's from only our second year. We used vintage serial numbers and neck plates all the time back then.

It's a very cool piece!
Cheers,
John

John,

I always wondered why you guys did that with Serials. I have played an'89 custom order '52RI from the custom shop and it has the same serial # style from the Vintage RI series.

did you do it because you guys were so new you didn't have a serial system yet?

thanks,

chandler

That's exactly why. In the early days our future was very "iffy", we were struggling to prove our worth and make money for the company. We did everything we could to watch our costs. Plus we were constantly growing, so there was so much to do that worrying about our own SN system was kind of far down the list.

I`m in contact with Horschti and I probably I´ll buy this CS bass. Is there any information available about this bass? Is it team built or master built? I´m happy about every little bit of knowledge about this bass.

Thanx a lot

Awero

thanks for the insight, John! I've seen and played many early examples of your work, and other stuff outa the early custom shop. some of the best guitars I've ever played.

sorry to thread-jack, but could you help me out in shedding some light on this particular strat? :

I asked M. Eldred, but the thread got buried in new threads, so I don't think he saw it. you're the other expert in these parts of the forum lol

who was Gene Barker? he was around during your reign in the Custom Shop, I know that. but do you know how many of this guitar were made? really unique instrument there, for sure.

thanks, John!
