From the 60s, I think Ocean Turquoise was fairly rare. In the 50s, almost anyone's guess, but Copper would be rare.

a lot of guitars today that look like ocean turquoise or sherwood green are actually lake placid blue where the clear has yellowed so much the appearance has changed... you can only tell by looking under the headstock sticker or pickguard...

Correct

Over on another forum, a '56 Tele finished in walnut has just showed up. Not made from walnut, but finished in walnut, like some steels.

Now that's rare! :)

Since the walnut Tele pictures are up on the 'net already, here they are. Nice amp too, to complete the set!

Back in '85, my local guitar shop had a pre-CBS Precision Bass finished in yellow-green sunburst, exactly the same finish seen on the P bass used by the Strangler's J. J. Burnel in the '70s (below). I thought it looked stunning, but could not afford the £225 asking price. For 26 years I have been looking for another!!

I have not seen this finish on any other Fender instrument from the '60s - does anyone know if it was a factory finish?

I've never seen that finish before.

Hi Vortexx,

For years I've been looking online for any info' or pictures of this finish but, as I said before, I've only ever seen two. It struck me that the bass I saw back in '85 could have been a refin done specifically to emulate Brunel's bass, which could itself have been a refin in the first place! Whatever it is, I like the finish. It kind of reminds me of Gibson's discontinued 'Gecko' finish.
