what are the rarest custom colors from these era's?

i've read that charcoal frost metallic & sherwood green are rare colors from the 60's - maybe even shell pink too.

it is quite an interesting debate. I have come to the conclusion that the color we know as "Salmon Pink" was the result of a Fiesta Red Strat, exposed to massive amounts of sun, resulting in a fading of the pigmentation in the paint.

am I correct, Mike?

Or, they didn't shake the can enough, or, they ran out of Fiesta and mixed their own to make the production.

It's Fiesta Red though.

I would definitely say Taos Turquoise and Tahitian Coral, as seen on these pieces out of the collection of Dave Rogers.

also Cimarron Red is pretty rare too.

sunburst! oh wait... you wanted the most rare, not the most common...

all bets are off the table when it comes to the '50s. They didn't have a custom color chart... anything that was available from Dupont could have been done and is probably sitting in someones closet...

From the 60s, I think Ocean Turquoise was fairly rare. In the 50s, almost anyone's guess, but Copper would be rare.

a lot of guitars today that look like ocean turquoise or sherwood green are actually lake placid blue where the clear has yellowed so much the appearance has changed... you can only tell by looking under the headstock sticker or pickguard...
