I just bought my first Fender custom shop strat, a 56 NOS. When I took the neck off to make some adjustments, i noticed that it has RELIC stamped on it. Should I be at all concerned about this? eg for resale or any other reasons...?

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

It's just to avoid people selling it as an original.
Nothing detrimental.

What Alain said.

The "Relic" stamp is standard on a Fender Relic built guitar. It's there to identify a Relic built guitar from a naturally aged and original issue.

You have nothing to worry about.

I'll confirm the previous posters, it's just there to keep people from trying to pass it off as a real '56.
I haven't taken apart my Custom Deluxe Tele & Strat yet, but I suspect I'd find "NOS" stamped somewhere under the pickgaurds.

Does anyone know if all CS guitar necks (CC, NOS, Relic) are supposed to have RELIC stamped on the heel? I purchased one of my CS Closet Classic strats (2009) used and the neck does not have RELIC stamped on it.

A quick look through some custom shop necks images on Ebay seems to suggest it varies (some have it, some don't). I'm guessing that the specs of the neck matter. For example, the neck on my '57 CS was special ordered with the truss rod adjustment at the headstock so it couldn't be confused with an actual '57 neck. Anyone confirm this assumption?

ebay is not a reliable source of info regarding authenticity of Fender CS guitars. Too many fakes there, many of which have been identified in this forum.
