Anyone know what's up with this?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-Masterbuilt- ... 414272bd34

Been on ebay awhile and comparing price to its MSRP, it's not bad. Might be able to get it a little cheaper but I am curious that it's been on there awhile and hasn't sold.

Were these hybrids just never appealing in general?

No one wants them?

No, that sounds about right money to me. I could have bought a used one here in the uk for £1800 a while back.
I think the painted headstock puts alot of folks off....it did me. Wish they'd have done these in 2TSB.

Well, got the price down but then realized these are pre-beat up models. Argh! I never have understood why you want a pre-beat up guitar and pay extra for it.

So, I'll pass . . .

Chris' Tele-Strat hybrid came with an SSS setup and the S-1 switch.

I saw former masterbuilder John Suhr (the guy who owns JS Technologies) making a similar guitar called the Classic TS 4 years ago. Unlike the Fender original, Suhr's own version came with different pickup layouts, a variety of finishes and a 22-fret maple neck with rosewood or maple fretboard.

I've seen one of those Classic TSes with a pair of JST SSV humbuckers in the neck and bridge positions while surfing on Indoor Storm's Website in 2007. This guitar had a black finish, a 3-ply aged white pearloid pickguard and a 60's C Vintage Standard maple neck with a pau ferro fretboard and 22 super-sized frets.

Nice collection. Like the TT too. That yours?

The TeleStrats we're referring to here are putting a Strat pup configuration and wiring in the Tele body. It appears you have a standard Tele body with a Strat neck attached?

I would tend to agree if you're going to consider it a Telecaster when done.

The reason I haven't already bought a Tele is I have always found Teles to be "too limited" for the music I play. Yet, I really like the playability of the instrument and the basic sounds you can get from it. I want ot take that and expound on it so I looked at the Tele/Strat custom shop but it's not floating my boat either.

So, I have decided to build a custom guitar based on a Tele body/neck design.

Ash/Ash body with a translucent cherry finish that is bursted similar to the violinburst Custom Deluxe. Light translucent burgandy red so all that pretty ash grain shows through in the center to a darker less translucent burgandy red at the edges. Going to put a white pearloid pickguard on it.

22 medium jumbo stainless fret 3A flame maple neck, vintage tint satin finish with 59 profile and abalone dots. I am going to try the 10-16 compound radius design Warmoth is doing. For example, I love my Strat but I do know that, with my long slender hands, if I solo very long on it my hand starts cramping. The thicker 59 profile neck along with that 10-16 compound radius should help that.

3 pup design with a SD SH-2 chrome humbucker in the neck, a SD duckbucker humbucker in the middle, and a SD Pearly Gates humbucker in the bridge all with splitters plus S1 switching and a bridge on switch.

All chrome hardware with lockers. All gold H/W would look good too but I'm going to stick with chrome on this one.

That'll make like 22 different sounds and if I do it right will be a very comfortable, playable and quite gorgeous guitar. Not a Telecaster though.

Just a custom guitar based on a Telecaster general layout.

Sorry to join in this forum late but for everyones benefit I have a original 1997 black deluxe telestrat with two lace single coil pick ups and a semour duncan pickup at the bridge. The guitar has si switching and will play as either tele or strat.I also have a USA strat. I use the tele for stones etc and the strat for other things as you would expect. The sound of the strat is pretty much on form taking the view that there are many different strat models with different sounds. The sd pickup really kicks $@! and puts it into a class of it's own when that pickup is used. I've played it with different groups who always think it's to heavy metal. The tele setting is rock $@! and good for the hard rock sounds. I usually keep it on tele, but if the strat I play breaks a string I've got it to use on strat setting as a spare.

In a few words your TS hybrid has an HHH configuration with coil split and tap.

Did you also plan to add an Eric Clapton circuit for further tonal variety? Duncans work fine with the active mid-booster since they're humbuckers. You can even install a bypass switch to toggle between active and passive mode.

Not certain if you're fond of active electronics, though

I would be glad to see a couple of pictures from your axe.
