I found a deal on a new set of '69 CS Pups. They look like the real deal to me, and you can see the date and signed by Abilgail. I can grab them for $125. If new and original I'll get them, but I'm always nervous about fakes on-line. New at CG they are 149+SH+tax, so I feel this is a good deal. All you experts out there, Mike E?, please let me know.

Thanks for any input.

I see them all over eBay for $130~140 range. But what I may be reading is how Fender advertises each one has been "checked" and singed and dated by Abby. It does not day she actually wound them. So you are probably correct if these were originally wound by the mater herself, and not someone else and just given her seal of approval.

Thanks

"...Mass produced..." - we have about 6 ladies making the CS pickups.

"...the "Abby initialed" thing is just a marketing gimmick concocted by Fender to capitalize on Abby's association with pickups that may have been used by Hendrix..." - wtf? Abby is the head winder at the shop. She started initialing those because she was checking them. She doesn't check all the 69's now...so, should she stop signing them? OK. Done.

Here are Abby 's "hand wound" (still there is a machine) pick ups signed by her from a Mary Kaye Tribute Strat (what a lovely guitar BTW)

ouch, Mike just SCORCHED that fellow... how do those sound in the Kaye, Alain?

consider that all pickups that are "Hand Wound" I assume they all are done on a machine, if they did it by hand, it would take a LONNG time, right?

Just a reminder:

Pick ups initialed by Abby mean their making has been supervised by her.

Pick ups signed by Abby mean they have been handwound by her

PS The Mary Kaye Tribute Strat is one of the sweetest perfect guitars.
The epitome of the elegance of a Strat.
Cristal clear sounds, well bodied and an incredible definition.

In a blind test I can recognize Abby's handwound pick ups among as many others as you wish although not two of them sound exactly the same of course.
Together with the guitar there is a DVD in which we can see Abby wounding a pick up.
