Hello everyone, I know I don't post a lot, but I was wondering if I could ask for some advice? I am looking at a 1991 Fender Telecaster "Custom Shop" tomorrow. I've only seen pictures but not the guitar yet. I could tell that it had a Custom Shop logo on the back of the headstock. It's black w/ cream binding and a maple neck and fret board. I'm pretty sure that they didn't come with COAs back then, is that correct? One thing that concerns me a little is that the serial number doesn't come up. The serial number is 3143028. I thought that was weird, but I'm not familiar with early custom shops. The number doesn't come up on the guitar dater, but wouldn't be surprised if these don't show up on there. Here are a couple pics.

Does this look legit to you guys? Was that the case that these came with?
I really appreciate any input. I really appreciate any input.
Thanks, John

I'm no expert but I think it did come with a COA and I don't like the looks of that decal at all. I would not buy until you contact ME with the serial number. Better safe than sorry!!
Post that serial number on the "Ask Mike Eldred " thread.

Here is an examp;e of a 91 COA

Thanks, I will post this in that section then? I didn't really notice the decal until you said that, I guess I just thought it was picture blur.
Thanks!

Just because there is no COA doesn't me it is legit.
But to me the neck plate & the front logo look "off", if it is legit, it probably came with a tweed/black tolex case...

It's a pretty guitar, but the logo is wrong for a '91.

The CS logo at that time was a palette, like this:
