I have a MIM with Tex-Mex pups, I think they sound pretty good. But I heard I could get even better sound if I swapped out to the CS Texas Specials. Are they that much different?

I was also told to replace the trem block with a Fender 62 reissue (MIM is zinc), or the Callaham. Is this an upgrade worth it as well?

Thanks

Many love the TS, many hate them. The Texas Specials (TS) are very different than the Tex Mex (TM). The TS are the most 'muscular' of the Fender single coil line. You will be sacrificing many traditional Strat sounds found with your TMs and replacing them all with just the 'gruntier' genre of Strat sounds with the TSs. If it were me, I'd keep the TM as I like a broad range of tonality from my Strats.

With your TMs, crank up the midrange and bass on your amp and you'll get a taste of what the TMs will (only) sound like.

As to the block, do you feel your's is deficient in the first place? I have a MIM and I certainly don't.

The 62 RI and your OEM block are different sizes so that's right out any way. Here too though, I'd leave well enough alone as whatever improvements you require with a different block, you can mimic by tweaking your amp. And for the price you'd pay for a Callaham, you'd be in the ballpark of being able to buy another (used) MIM guitar!

Many good points! Thanks for taking the time to respond. Sounds like the best option is to play with my amp first. Thanks again.
