This guitar from the dealers down the road from my place is up there with The Russian in my opinion.

I'm not sure if it's de rigeur to paste pictures in here from someone else's site, so I'll just supply that link... gorgeous.

John English is awesome God rest him. Guitar is beautiful but just a little over the top with the flame maple.

What a gorgeous guitar !!!
What amazes me is that the body is all maple: two blocks of highly flamed maple.
No EC sig otherwise

Yes, Alainlafrance - it is just beautiful!

But did you notice how the high E string is almost falling of the fretboard and the low E is way inside? Even adjusting the neck a little by pulling it up isn't going to come anywhere close to correcting that imbalance. Any kind of vibrato or pull-offs on the upper frets of the high E is going to be a problem. Also, thumb-over onto the low E would be s challenge, too.

It amazes me that a guitar with that kind of string alignment can get the title 'Masterbuilt' from the Custom Shop.

They call it an EC strat - but did Clapton ever use the modern 2-point trem that this guitar has. Maybe he did in the '90's, and I just don't remember it.

Having done a CS guitar on the Clapton platform I can speak to the fact that it was done so with the understanding that the signature cannot be carried on a guitar which is "off spec". Where that leaves the guitar in the post has not been addressed.

Doc

You are right
I didn't notice.
From what can be seen there is no way to adjust the neck to tilt on the left to correct such a VERY important problem.
I've seen several CS guitars bargained on Ebay because of such flaw.

Maybe they were shooting for that good old '50's vintage vibe where the nut width would cause the 6th string to fall off the fret board around #15. :?

Yes, I see it now... that's just plain wrong, as if the bridge has been mounted quite a few millimeters off its proper location. I'm tempted to phone them up and ask what the story is, as I've always found their stock to be fine in the past (both my Strats came from there, though they weren't among their "rare" guitars... just nice contemporary models that turn over fairly quickly under all those $10K + instruments). I guess it was a "trophy" guitar and is probably being sold as such. It doesn't currently look all that playable, and they don't make any reference to that in their notes... hmm...

OK, I contacted the guys at the store. Apparently they snapped the pictures before the the guitar had been through the usual setup procedure as they wanted to get it up there quickly... it's true that most new listings there show up as "no picture available" for a week or so -- I like to keep up with what's happening on that site, and that's the way it often goes.

The previous owner had played it a bit, but it was primarily a showpiece for him. They assured me that there was plenty of scope for bringing the strings into alignment. I agree that it's a little difficult to visualise just how that would happen, but if they say it's being taken care of I'd be inclined to believe them. I've found them to be very reliable in the past, and they do sell more vintage and rare pieces than anyone else in Australia.

If anybody's at all interested in taking the plunge, you should contact them -- they seem happy to answer any questions...

In Fenders and JTE's defence it WAS 1992....flame maple tops were plentiful and very very popular....PRS & Anderson were big into the flametops too.....twas the fashion....and I was as a guilty as the next for supporting it!

Yes indeed but coming from Australia would make it quite expensive.
It's a very nice guitar indeed, one of a kind.
