Sooo I'm just incredibly curious about how much my custom shop is worth. I have a master-built Strat that John Cruz built for John Mayer to play on his past tour this summer. It was a contest through Fender.com to give it away and well, I won. Theres a thread about it http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1879&start=62
.

I have absolutely no desire to sell it, though I've had some crazy offers (i.e. vintage strats, other John Cruz strats, mint condition 335s from the 60s, money on the spot) but I'm just curious as to how much it may be worth?

Like i said, I'M NOTTTTTT SELLLLLLING... EVER. I think that would be very disrespectful for all parties involved with the contest giveaway. Plus I'm a huge John Mayer fan, I've only ever played strats so I'm loyal to Fender and theres only one guitar like this in the whole world, I can't give that up.

People always ask me what its worth so I figured I might try to find out.

What do you think?

Somewhere in the rules and regulations of the contest it listed both guitars' actual market value.

To be honest I don't remember what it was, but that price also doesn't take into account the fact that it was owned and played by Mayer, because that then makes the price subjective. So consider it the price of a one-off John Cruz strat, plus the price of whatever the seller would ever consider it worth because Mayer owned it.

It's like vintage 60's strats. They're worth what the buyer is willing to pay to have a guitar that old, just like your guitar is now worth what a potential buyer is willing to pay to have Mayer's strat.

I'd look around for the original link to the contest if it's still up, and then check the rules link. It lists the "approximate prize value" or something like that.

HEY WOULD YOU SELL IT TO ME....Ha, just kidding. I have no idea what it's worth, but it's cool to know that people actually win those contests. It's always in the back of my mind on whether anyone ever wins those contests or if they are just a promotional tool. But thats just the conspiracy theory section of my brain.

Like anything else, it's worth whatever somebody is willing to pay you for it. I can tell you it's not worth anything near what people would (or did) pay for "Blackie" or "Frankie". Yes, John Mayer is a great guitar player, but he is "just" John Mayer. You'll start talking some real money if he is still relevant in 20-30 years. Lots of good blues (or any other) players have come and gone, it all comes down to whether he sticks around or not (or even if he is actually relevant in the future).

VALUE IN THE COLLECTOR'S MARKET IS LIKELY TO APPRECIATE OVER TIME AND TO THE EXTENT OF WHATEVER GOOD FORTUNE MAYER'S CAREER EXPERIENCES. ALL OF THE COMPONENTS WHICH FACTOR INTO THE UNIQUENESS OF THE INSTRUMENT IN THIS REGARD WILL DETERMINE ITS VALUE TO SOMEONE WHO COLLECTS THESE KINDS OF ONE-OFF INSTRUMENTS.

MY MOST IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATION TO YOU WITH RESPECT TO COLLECTION WOULD BE THAT THE MORE 'MINT' IT IS, THE GREATER ITS VALUE IN THE FUTURE.

I bet there would be people on this earth that'd pay over $100k for it. Sure you don't want to sell? ;)
