Like Nevin said they are 2 very different guitars. Check out the specs for each guitar and decide which suits your needs. I bought the Gilmour because of the specific pups and the combinations you can get with the mini switch. Both are great guitars!

Agreed. You have to play these guitars to decide. Also.....the Gilmour is a replica guitar.....as well as a Custom Shop product, the reason for its creation....totally different from the EJ Artist Series instruments. Price wise, nearly double the EJ.

thanks guys :D I think that i like the ej for the price, wiring, tone control, and neck consisting of the staggard non-stringtree headstock

Dweezil Zappa said he prefers the EJ Strat over all other Strats. 8)

I have an EJ, and its a great guitar to play.

The Gilmour is very much a replica of David Gilmour's guitar, great if you're a Gilmour fan, but some of the features may not work for you. It does however have the custom shop kudos (and price!)

The EJ is a '57 with some special features that enhance for anyone rather than make it particular for the artist. The only thing that really gives it away is the string tree free headstock.

The 12 inch radius 1/4 sawn maple neck is a peach. You don't even have to like EJ to really like his sig guitar.

I have both guitars.

My EJ maple is a terrific guitar a great value. I play it every day.

In comparison, my Gilmour NOS is easier to play, it's construction is "tighter" and the finish and the tone make for an exceptional work of art in addition to being a joy to play. I play my Gilmour first every day.

Excellent point. Ha! I think they're both outstanding guitars. If you want a pro finish, slick playability and a lot of extras like a book, a CD and funky case... Go Gilmour.

If you want a quarter-sawn neck and a great "custom" guitar at a regular price, then you can't be the EJ.

Neck radius, IMHO, is overrated. I thought there would be a screaming difference in playability between an EJ neck and my other strats and there's not much difference that I can feel or explain in the playing. Maybe that's because I play different guitars every day and so I'm not locked in to playing one radius every day for years.

Edited to add: The Gilmour does have more exciting electronics by far. The EJ is a little sucky in the natural hum and buzz department. You can even hear that "EJ Hum" in his live performance Fender videos, so that's obviously an important part of "his sound" that sort of makes others of us shudder. I guess that's why we have the mid positions.
