I have been playing my Custom Shop Strat though a refurbished (new tubes) Deluxe Reverb. To get a decent lead sound, I have to really crank it up, so I have been trying other amps. Any advice about what works for you? I like the old Roland BC-60, but am open to suggestions.

It depends on what kind of music you play, what kind of sound you are looking for and a magnitude of budget...

Rather than go SS, I'd suggest trying a Pro Jr. Don't let the size fool you!

I have a Time Machine 56 NOS Custom Shop and i'm saving for the Mesa-Boogie Lonestar Special. It's approximately $1799.00 but a great amp in that you can use it in 3-modes, 5, 15 and 30 watts. Read about this amp if you haven't already. I'd say it's a great match if you're blues/rock player. That or the Dr. Z MAZ-18, 18-watt all-tube combo. Here is a link on the Mesa:

I play my CS Jeff Beck through a '57 Twin. This is an absolutely fantastic amplifier. The tones are incredible, touch sensitive and plenty of power. I gig with the amp, and it has plenty of power from it's 40 watts. The dual rectifiers mean there is less sag than with other tube rectifier amps (can always pull one if you want more sag). I use NO effects pedals except for an overdrive pedal to get earlier breakup at lower volumes when practicing with the band. The effects are not needed, everything you need is in the tone of amp and how you play your guitar. This is the amp that was designed and built by Leo to match the Strat.

With all that said, this is not an amp for heavy metal. If you play this amp, a Y patch cable plugged into each channel is a must. That way you will get the full frequency range of the amp. Also, turning up the bass and treble brings up the mid-range. Don't buy into all the after market mods available for the amp, they are not needed! The Y cable and channel mixing is all you need. This is an amp you "learn to play" like a instrument. It is not simple something where the sound comes out, but becomes part of the guitar.

Good luck with your search.

Miami Mike is correct, the pro junior is awesome. I love that little amp, it's a gem.

Rivera Sedona 55 head with Sedona 112EX / 115EX cabs
Rivera Sedona 100 head with Sedona 112EX / 115EX cabs
Rivera Sedona 100 combo
Rivera Sedona 55 combo

Expensive if new, but works for electric and acoustic guitars....BTW, these are all tube amps.

Blues Jr is very nice amp (have too - the 3 color sunburst edition) but nothing at all, when comparing it to Sedonas - but that comparison is not fair at all due to the price difference.

I run my Gilmour strat through either my Mesa Road King 2 or my Fender Blues Deville. Both sound amazing. The Mesa is what I use if I need distortion. But with an Overdrive pedal and the overdrive channel on my Fender I can get Pink Floyd and SRV distortion just fine.
