How much does the lack of a COA impact on the value, or perceived value, of a Custom Shop guitar?

Kind of like being stopped for doing 110 in a 50 and being asked:
"License and registration please"

Somewhere along the line you're going to need to have to produce a paper trail of documentation of purchase and ownership. We recently had a situation posted on the Forum relative to that particular issue.

As an example, go to the Custom Shop site and familiarize yourself with the terms and conditions of the Custom Care program.

Doc

I've got documentation of purchase. I bought the guitar used, without its COA, several years back from a dealer in Illinois, and had it shipped over to the UK.

The guitar is a '97 "Coppercaster." #24 of 40, so not a very common guitar.

Butterscotch are you THE Butterscotch of another Forum I left long ago ?

Welcome here.

It depends if the guitar is among well known guitars of the CS.
I mostly prefer to get a CS guitar with its COA but when I get one which I haver been looking for for years ,then I make abtraction of it if it happens.
Otherwise it's better to get one; if you know the original owner, you can ask him to get a new one through the original Dealer where he bought it.
I would say at least 10%,sometime up to 20%.

There you have it, from the source. I was hoping that he would jump in on this.

I agree with alainlafrance, as I've seen some people try to create CS parts casters (which is a novel idea regardless).

I'm sort of in the same boat, because of a recent house fire, as I kept all (3) of my COAs with the guitars in the cases, and the cases were destroyed.
