Hello People, This is my first post, probably of many. I am a Strat and sometimes Tele player, collector, fixer, and I put together many a custom Strat or Tele. I say put together because there are other people who do what I do and they call themselves "Makers", but all we really do is assemble the given parts in unique ways. On to my question to the community. I recently purchased a second hand Custom hop Telecaster froma local music store. They know even less about it than I do so they are no help. First off, it is a lefty. Second the serial is a weird one, maybe not even belonging to it as it is on a F neckplate and reads "A9100**" The CCustom Shop logo is original and in thecorrect place on the back of the headstock. It is very heavy and is finished in a glossy natural, which is also original. The tuners and bridge look to be American Standard. This would typically lead me to believe that it is a Custom Classic. It is Not. It doesnt have the Lightly figured neck. The neck looks to be maple with a rosewood board. So as this mystery got deeper, I seperated the neck from the body for a look at the neck pocket markings. All the markings were all Pure Custom Shop on the neck and the body except one, There was "Zapf's music handwritten in the pocket of the body. The body also had a number etched in the wood of the neck pickupcavity which was a CN.... number. By the way before I go on, I called Fender and neither the serial or the # in the pickup cavity meant anything to them. So, here I am. I am sure Zapf's Music is a clue, so if anyone knows of a special run of guitars made for Zapf's Music, please let me know what this guitar is suppossed to be as I am clueless and it doesnt look like any current Custom Shop model. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Any chance it has a different body than it originally had? I worked for Zapf's 10+ yrs. They became music 123.com and a couple years ago sold to brass and woodwinds. I think the Zapf family kept a store in Cherry Hill NJ for awhile, you could check to see if that still exists. Maybe someone there knows something, but I kind of doubt it.

Seems to me, it's more likely someone pieced it together with a different body and neckplate because they like that one better.

Years ago, Zapf's had one of the best guitar selections on the east coast. I learned alot from working there in the 70's and 80's.

Like you, I have assembled some of the finest Fender strats and teles I have ever seen and I have seen some stuff in my 40 years of playing
