I understand why the 66 Silver is priced higher than the others (limited quantity) but why is the Teal ($3k) priced differently than the Candy Red ($2.7k) and Gold ($2.1k)??

I only see a difference in color. Same specs, same everything.

Anyone have any idea as to the build quality between all four models of the '66 Firemists?

It's OK, I believe udreks was directed here after posting the question in another section...

The '66 Time Machines aren't being produced anymore (perhaps they'll return at a later date), so any pricing you're seeing is being set by the retailers. As far as I know, there was no price difference suggested by Fender except the usual variation between NOS, Closet Classic and Relic finishes. The standard colours for the '66 guitars were Firemist Gold, Candy Apple Red and Teal Green. I have a Relic version in Teal Green (a love/hate colour that I happen to love!).

There was a limited run produced in Firemist Silver (100 pieces, I believe). In photographs this finish looks a little like the Teal — it depends on the photographer. The Firemist Silver '66s would have had a higher list price which is probably reflected in the prices you'd be seeing now.

If you're seeing higher prices for the Teal Green '66, you may be looking at Relic prices compared to NOS in another colour. Otherwise, they should be the same as the Firemist Golds and CARs. Firemist Silvers may be fetching higher prices owing to their more limited production number.

[EDIT] I really should read the question before I post... I was remembering it from the other section of the forum. I see you know about the Silvers vs the other colours.

All I can say (from the position of someone who owns one of the Teal Greens) is that there is no difference between my guitar and the Golds and Reds. It shouldn't be priced any higher than the others.

Thank you very much, Mondo. That's precisely what I was looking for.

I think I confused the issue by calling them all Firemists. Only the Silver and Gold were Firemist finishes.
