Alain may own more guitars than Mike, but Mike has the Custom Shop. ME can play them long before Alain buys them.

For the Custom Shop portion: YES

[quote="Mike Eldred - Fender"]I can't afford a $31k guitar. If I could, I would buy one, because they're just going to go up.

I can get something that looks, sounds, and actually plays better than the original. And, if I'm looking to play the guitar, it certainly makes sense.

Another analogy would be the Corvette. I'd give a kidney to get a 1967 convertible 427. But a new one can go straight line as fast or faster (Z06 or ZR1), and there is NO comparison in handling or quality. So if your going to drive it you go with the new one. But if i had the $$$ I'd still want a '67.

Thanks
I'm getting too old for a job.
I'm just still young enough to spend money in great guitars

There's a late 50's Strat in a display case at the GC I frequent sporting a 45K price tag. The manager and I had a long talk the morning I picked up my Gilmour and he is of the opinion that the market is soft on those so-called 'collectibles'. I certainly would sink 45 Large into something which looked like death warmed over, even if her name was Bardot. :P

Is this your first peek at Alain's collection. :?: Personally, I eschew the relic look. Alain has great taste, and I prefer my guitars to look like that....particulary the one that's been named "The Russian"

As long as you're going over, you should do a feature with the two of you for Fender News. I do think you have some idea of what you are in for inside that vault of his. He gave us a tease with a photo of a line of cases. And those are just Fender. You know there's more.

Why shouldn't everyone be depressed. :?: :?

Including me; a friend of mine in Paris has more than 250 guitars (including a Gibson Les Paul Standard from 1960 in pristine condition)
He even owns a Plek Machine to set up his guitars !!!

All my Fenders are relatively young, and mostly CS. I like the idea of old guitars, but don't have the necessary $$$ to fund such things, and I too feel that better guitars are coming from Fender now, than ever before!

The only oldish one I have is this old girl, who turned 43 in March!

Yeah....and the gear that lays around collecting dust winds up on holiday sales at Guitar Center.....much to our great advantage. Often, patience is a virtue not unrewarded.
