How does the Custom Shop Relic reproductions impact the second hand market? Since you can obtain a Relic for a fraction of the cost of a second hand guitar, for example a 50's Strat, has the demand for second hand Fenders decreased?

I saw a second hand strat at GC that cost more than $31,000.00. A Masterbuilt Relic of the same guitar would retail for far less than that price.

I can't afford a $31k guitar. If I could, I would buy one, because they're just going to go up.

I can get something that looks, sounds, and actually plays better than the original. And, if I'm looking to play the guitar, it certainly makes sense.

On the short term, it's not as collectable, but it is a great guitar and investment I believe. There has never been another time in Fender's history, where you could contact the factory and have an instrument built to your specs. That will be significant in the history of Fender. Just my opinion.

Hi ME,
Yes indeed
Here is a '63 L serie Olympic White Strat in top condition:

This one, I own since 1962; I played in a band which performed in a USAF base in France and the Airforce man who bought it from the PX sold it to me before going back to the States. Pristine. Strats were quite rare in France in the early '60s

It's definately affected it.

I have about a dozen CS pieces, and several Masterbuilts

Below is a pic of my JC Strat
I took this to Sunset Blvd GC and A/B'd against vintage.
Not even close from a player point of view
Tone, playability.... the vintage wasn't even close

I have the money to buy vintage
I wanted to buy the 58 hard tail they have there that's about 26k
It's only 26k cuz it's a hard tail, trems are about 45k and up
It's the one that was left in it's case with a coil cord, and the cord
more or less melted into the back

I even like antiques, and the mystique of vintage instruments
I wonder where they've been ....

Either way, no vintage for me

some eye candy

I'd like to have a Strat for the year I was born.... 1969.... Until I have that kind of $$$ (and even if I did) I think a new CS '69 (that I knew no one else played i.e., I was the first owner) would more than do it for me... just can't stop being distracted by all the other cool CS guitars I see to settle on a '69

And -Double Top Secret -you wouldn't change your job for another one Heh...

This means a full time job with a clear time separation between wine tester and guitar set up guru

Alain may own more guitars than Mike, but Mike has the Custom Shop. ME can play them long before Alain buys them.
