I was wondering if stock 2008 American Standard Strat pickups are worse than custom shop fat 50's, 69's, 54's, etc.

Hos are they different?
I am going for a john mayer/srv tone and would like them to be as close as possible ...
I know there is a lot more going into the tone such as fingers, strings, amp,.... just would like to know as far as pickups go?

Hey thanks for the recommendation - - - Can you tell me (or anyone else for that matter) what the dc resistance is on the stock pickups?

"Every pickup coil has a characteristic DC resistance, measured in Ohms - this depends on the number of turns and the diameter of the copper wire used. Typical values can range from about 1k (1000 ohms) up to about 15k (15000 ohms)." I beleive stock pups run near 6K ohms. I am unable to find the manufact lit on this though.

What you want to know is, of what is available, which are considered to be
'scooped midrange' because that's the ticket with Mayer. However, if you save your bucks for the new NOS you may resolve a host of issues and get as close as you can to what you seek.

As for SRV...might as well hope for reincarnation because both he and his amp builder are together now, working the great gig in the sky.

Doc.
