It came with out a Certificate, so I contacted a buddy of mine who works for Fender and he was able to verify it was real and gave me the build date, who it was sold to in 1993 and other info. Circumstances dictate that I have to sell the guitar so I called Consumer Relations and they said they couldn't find the serial number in thier records??? The S/N is V064739 Did I get someone who didn't know what they were doing on the phone or is the data harder to get for the service guy than it was for my buddy?? Any info would be greatly appreciated...

Not a CS serial number. That's probably your problem. Do you have pics of the back of the headstock? Also, the strings are wound the wrong way on the pegs on your guitar.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for answering! And yes, I'm pretty sure it is a Custom Shop serial number...check out this Tele on ebay (completed the same day as mine)

I don't think y'all went to the R serial numbers till a year or so later.
Here's a neck pocket/back of the neck shot..

And here's what my buddy sent me..

I don't have a shot of the back of the headstock, but it has the chevron shaped Custom Shop lgo without the USA under it. I think the USA portion of the logo was added in early '94..Thanks again for your help. I hate selling it but things happen (kids, cars, college)..it's a great guitar...

I would say, considering ME's job he's got to be considered the authority on whether it's a CS serial number or not.

Mike,
No disrespect meant by disagreeing with you. I thought the same thing about the serial number when I first was going to buy the guitar. I thought the V0XXXX serial numbers were only on reissue '57 and '62 Strats and basses. I checked a bunch of ebay auctions and gbase and found that up until 94 (or thereabouts) Custom Shop Tele's had V0XXXX numbers, unless they were a run of special guitars and then they would be numbered 1 of X, or if they were Masterbuilt they would have the builders sequence number under their signature decal ..Anyway, sorry if I came across as disrespectful or unappreciative of your input and help.
Regards,
Rick

V serial no's go back to 82. If you look on this sites dater it says reissue tele's dont have a V prefix. Its certainly a curious conundrum. The heel and pocket look ok.

V was also the prefix for japanese tele's from 96-96.
