So I finally broke down and bought a 57 strat heavy relic reissue, but the tone is not quite what I was hoping for (I'm going for a Lincoln Brewster tone). My temptation is to return it to Guitar Center and have them send me another one. My question is: How similar will another of the same guitar be? The one I have now is a little heavy in bass and lacking in the upper mids (even listening acoustically). Do I stand a chance of getting one that is much different?

Before you consider the tone you are trying to get. Consider the artists extensive gear list that may even dwarf Alain laFrance's in some cases. The fact that they have a tech constantly monitoring their tone at the desk. The studio's sound and recording technique. You never get a amps tone as you hear it in a proofed room through the monitors at the mixing console. I have to play in the mixing room just so i can hear how i sound the amp sounds so different to the recorded tone i want.

BTW 57 relic. Where did you get that? I'm a bit new to customshop and havent seen them before.
