Shane Nicholas goes honky-tonkin with a Custom Shop La Cabronita 1 tuned to open G. The 57 Champ's single control is set to "8."

WOW!
That little champ really turns on the tone!

I think it a bit expensive though.

Seems the one pick up is getting more votes because it has more personnality than the two pick ups version because of the use of different pick ups: PowerTron for the one pick up version, TV Classic for the two pick ups version.

It is such great guitar. I didn't pick one up because there were some things I would change and I once swore to myself that I wouldn't pay over 3G for a guitar that I would modify.I've been thinking about ordering a NOS version with one pickup and one of those three-way Gretsch tone switches.

See the latest issue of Guitar World for an article on the history of the Gretsch company. I remember their factory near the Williamburgh Bridge in Brooklyn, a guitarist's Eifel Tower to any young player coming up in the '50's. 8)

In my 'yute' I actually found my way there to buy a 3-way switch for a
Harmony acoustic I was converting to electric using 2 DeArmond pickups pre-wired for volume and tone. It was like the Wright Bros first airplane compared to my VG Stratocaster. :wink:

Those were the days....when a modded table radio served as an amp. :P

That is why....there are times when.....

They released more colour options than originally scheduled: black, shoreline gold, white and red so all in 40 one pick up and 80 two pickups that's not many.
But that's for the time being... :roll:

Hey Doc,

Caleb's dad here.

Part of your quote below: -

{"Those were the days....when a modded table radio served as an amp"}

WOW - that takes me back a few years (45 to be precise).

I can remember modifying my mum's old radio for my first amp too!
