October 2006, everybody thought all of the 10 Russian Strats had been sold

All but one: A&Ttrade when seeing them decided to keep one for themselves and, not innocently ,selected the #3.
They would use it as a Showcase of the epithom of the Fender Custom Shop Art.

late 2006 I discovered on the Fender Custom Shop Dealer's Select page the existence of the Russian Strats but I was too late and a further problem would have arisen as you could only buy them in Russia.
Two weeks ago I sold a guitar to another French collector (who is in the Big League with about 230 guitars) and I mentioned that Russian Strat.
My chance, he was going to Moskow every month.
By enquiring I got the info that there was a second series of Russian Strats from 2007, very close visually, but not exactly of the same appeal than a first batch one
He enquired and told me that there was one which was still for sale. I gave my green light to buy it.
When he was in Moskow's A&Ttrade office he saw the lonely #3 in a showcase.
He started to discuss and bargain (he is fluent in russian language), he managed to buy it instead of the other one and brought it back to Paris last Sunday after sneaking through the Customs. A very big thanks to him BTW.

And now it's there. Some kind of unplayed NOS.
PS my camera shows signs of age so these photos are not the very best, specially regarding the rendering of colours but that gives an idea.
Enjoy

Alain,

That voloume control looks like the switch of an HSS.

I's an S1 switch which gives all imaginable possibilities of pick up combinations + some with caps
See them in the other thread.

YYYYEEEESSS
but very differently from other Strats.
The pick ups are nicknamed "Ivan The Terrible" so you can imagine that with a slight overdrive or fuzz she starts instantly.
On clear sounds she is more on crystal clear sounds with a lot of variations because of the S1 switch.
When you hear it you don't instantly recognize the typical sounds of a Strat ; you have to find the sound that you want and then crank up your amp
P.S. Keep in mind these are very first impressions for some minutes. I need to "mate" her
P.S.S. I tried it on a JMI AC15; next a Marshall when my wife is away

It seems that the "beautiful" guitars are pretty rare these days? That´s at least my thought as most players are raving about relics and vintage replicas. And recent CS ltd runs are 99% relics.

So your new beauty star is and will stay a rare bird, Alain! I also like the Presidential Strat a lot. Not because of the wine, just the flame top and the nice colour.

Btw, I don´t have a S-1 equipped guitar...did John English ever made one???

I WAS RIGHT!!! only yuri can make gold and sunburst look great together...

you should make a youtube, then take your collection, then do short minute-long demos of each one, with a few facts and close-ups of the guitar. I'd love to hear the Marvin or any of the other rare unknown strats you have. pleeeeeeaaaaasssseeee???

also congrats on the strat!

thanks for your comments.
I'm not so familiar with youtube and for security reasons, I'm not willing to expand outside of this Forum what you see.

Cheers

I hadn't read this prior to my comments elsewhere but it appears that my initial impressions about the deal were in the pipeline.

If readers haven't realized it yet, the info on Yuri's webpage is specific about the fact that the American Deluxe Stratocaster became an extremely popular guitar in Russian upon its release and it was this basis upon which Yuri began his work.

My new FSR American Deluxe VG is as well, aged cherry sunburst over ash, but I certainly would have appreciated the kind of grain pattern I 've seen in the Siennas.

Of course, Yuri's booked matched tops are wonderfully done as is the instrument as a whole.

My wife, who is presently in Seattle, hasn't seen your guitar yet. She knows of my affection for wood finishes. She will flip for this one.

Kudos again Alain and thanks for sharing.

Doc
