This kind of crap is going to put an end to engraved neckplates and COA's. Any distinction will probably be headstock, heel and body cavity markings.

Shame.
Embedded encrypted microchips are the way this is going to go if oyu ask me.

The fact that if you click the more items by this goon link it only shows guitar parts and no frillies at all. Tells me its just another case of sex sells.

12B, hologram decals on the back of the headstock. Chips would be great but require a reader to validate em.

If my memory is good, at one time Fender has considered putting these RFIC in their CS guitars but, as nikininja mentioned, you need a reader and it seemed unviable to have all Dealers worldwide having one.
Still, vets do have these for the dogs..

I think the chip technology gets cheaper all the time. I think it will become an inevitability. After all you can already buy these:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Accessories ... ochip.html

The copy actually says they're in Fender CS guitars. I didn't know that when I did the first post!

Bars are starting to go high tech, with systems to identify trouble makers, by use of computerized databases. So these chips seem like a good thing to me.

That said, stuff like holograms, and even microchips are at best a temporary solution, just another thing for the crooks to try duplicate. All the anti-counterfeit measures in money haven't eliminated fraud, just caused the bunko artists to work harder, and keep up with the times.

Thats a good point. It would be quite easy to replicate a line of code on a chip that causes a computer to display certain details on a pc. Even if it caused a full COA to come up on the screen with the next page as a parts list, its only computer code.

Jay every day some programmer or designer makes a claim like 'it will be unbreakable for 10 years' only to be proved wrong a month or two later. You cant tell me that they cant find some way to replicate what a chip contains or how it operates.

Or how about the blatant transplant of such a chip into a cheap bit of firewood. Such as we see with coa's and neckplates. Ok its going to be tricky but its doubtfull that the chip would be placed in a inaccesable area of the guitar. It cant go in the body join because the guitar would need to be finished before it got such things as its serial or part numbers.
Ok it could all be logged so chip T23232323(example) corresponds to a series of specs stored on a database. As we know though that stuff can be hacked.

Do you think it is the guy's Tele and he wants to see what others will pay for his neckplate and COA?

Or possibly he duplicated the COA and had the plate made?

Mike like i said in my first or second post. I choose to believe the best of people (yeah im a mug) and that the guy has bought a customshop guitar. Decided its not leaving his side but used his brains and thought 'I can make money off this stuff i dont need'.

Like i said when i saw a CS sticker sell for £99 i was tempted, Its not like i'm ever going to stick it.

I think its legit, which is a real shame. There should be a proviso on such things that they cant be parted out. I'm not sure how that would work with regular customshop guitars under your laws but I'm sure that it could legaly be incorporated into a masterbuilt contract of employment.

Hopefully thats the case and it will get back to fmic.
This whole thing is a sad sorry circumstance.
