I know this isnt strictly a guitar question, but hell - I've got four custom shop guitars!

So here goes: -

I have just been given a big Muff and vintage tube screamer.

Now I know that David Gilmour did at one time use a big muff to help get his sound.

Trouble is - these are my first pedals and I am not sure as to how they should be connected.

are they supposed to be used together - in series or alone?

Also there are thousands of pedals out there : -

Compression
Chorus
Delay
Noise reduction etc..etc..

Can anyonme please give a heads up to a pedal virgin what are the most used and in what sequence are they supposed to go??

Thanks Mr Hopkins.

This is a very interesting site and one which I visit sometimes.

I was really after some kind of general rules (if indeed there are any) for the way pedals should be put together.

Mr Hopkins,
I tried the following last night: -

Guitar - Big Muff - Tube screamer - amp.

After some experiments it sounded really good and a great Gilmour tone.

Trouble is my fingers on my right and left hands didnt do it justice.

However I do have another 40 years to get it right! :D

Thaks everyone for your help.

You are welcome my friend! You may want to try the tube screamer first to drive the Big Muff and see how you like that. I know what you mean about the left hand, I have the same problem! Keep it up and I believe you will get there, at least that's what I keep telling myself. (and wife) I don't have 40 years! :( :)

I'm not saying you have them in the wrong order , just experiment. That's what David did and still does.
