Hi,
I have just won an ebay auction for a Chris Flemming Masterbuilt 1954 50th anniversary Stratocaster. I'm over the moon!
I've played some of these and they were all special. The neck was perfect for my large hands. My only question: how to use the 3-way switch. I have always had a 5-way and use position 4 quite a lot. However, I am not ready to alter it by putting in the 5 way switch just yet.

What tips and tricks can you detail to getting those out-of-phase positions? I've read about people using match sticks and something called 'notching', but have no idea what they mean.

On another subject. Is the trem block a steel block like the original or is it a cast alloy or something? Can't seem to find that detail anywhere.

thanks

If you're willing to shove matchsticks into the switch you might as well just swap it out for a 5 way switch. I'm sure you just spent a good amount of money on a masterbuilt guitar so why would you want to shove cardboard in it? It is like repairing a broken mirror on a Ferrari with duct tape. You should just spend the $12 on a Fender 5 way switch to get your desired positions comfortably and to preserve the 3 way switch without shoving stuff into it. The 5 way switch is the easiest thing to install too- you could do it yourself with the right solder (non-acid multicore) and a soldering iron.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll end up changing the switch in the end. Just want to make sure it's a keeper first.
