Hey Doc hopefuly it wont but (I apologize in advance for the long reply but please bear with me as I’m quite passionate for the subject), as Alain said, only time will tell and thanks to him because I did got lucky on the price and ended up with an almost mint instrument.

It’s great that I didn't have to pay 25K plus tax and suffer the agony of everyone who bought one on November 24, 2006 did. I did have to wait 2 plus long years to have the gear and / or the cash to buy it.

One thing I can tell you that don’t help for these guitars collectability is to have people in e-bay either absolutely closing out on the price because they could not afford it to begin with or asking ridiculous amounts of money for it.

I seem to recall that GC in San Francisco about 1 year ago was asking close to 28k for one, I thought it was absurd at the time and still do now.

Now from the stand point of owning a beautifully crafted and meticulously replicated instrument a la one of my favorite guitar players, I couldn't be happier and I think anyone who owns one (collecting aside) would agree. It’s great that Fender paid as much attention to detail as possible on this guitar and not like Gibson did with the Gibson Clapton ES-335, which after careful inspection I still can’t believe they dropped the ball so badly, I couldn’t resist so I e-mailed Gibson Customer Service to let them know that such careless mistakes was an insult to people like me who stupidly enough ended up buying one believing words like “painstaking” and “authentic reproduction”. I know they won’t care but at least I got it out of my system.

Thanks for reading and sorry for the rant.

I got mine from Daves Guitar, I it is a CW Fleming and I think it was for 18 or 19k pretty nice price. Thanks again for the heads up Alain!!
Absolutely fabulous guitars.

Aha - so it was you that beat me to the deal.

Doc - this is the one that I mentioned in my previous thread, but by the time I got the courage to go for it it had already been sold.

The early bird catches the worm I suppose.

I'lm still looking though.

Hey Caleb, I'm sorry I beat you to it. If it helps, a lot of people have beaten me to the Blackie Tribute for two plus long years and it took sacrificing quite a few of the guitars in my collection and money to get it, including a Jimmy Page DoubleNeck. My humble recomendation to you is (i) when you see one you like, try to secure it anyway you can (downpayment, layaway, etc.); (ii) then figure out how you're gonna pay for it. I myself did that and I knew I had a very little window to do so.
Hope you get a good one soon.
M.

So now that you have it, you might help satisfy my on-going curiosity about it's neck. If you would be so kind as to obtain a wrap-around measurement in mm at both the first and 12th frets, and the width of the board at the same locations. I want to compare it to my '89 Clapton. At that vintage it was an early successor to the guitar you presently hold.

I know what it means to have to rely on the collateral in one's guitar collection to obtain another. I certainly hope that you continue to find re-enforcement in the investment every time you play it.

Thanks for your assistance in advance.

Doc

Hey doc I don't have milimeter measurements but i guess you can convert the cm's.
4.2 cm wide at the first fret
5.1 cm wide at the twelfth
10.8 cm measuring around the neck at the first fret
12.9 cm measuring around the neck at the twelfth fret.

It's not NASA but I hope it helps.

Cheers,

M.

My '89 Clapton is 4.15 at the first; 5.0 at the 12th; 10.6 at the first; 12.3 at the twelfth;

Nikininja's '57Hotrod is: 4.4 at the first; 5.1 at the twelfth
10.9 at the first; 12.8 at the twelfth;

The '57 Hotrod was released in 1/07, 2 months after The Clapton Project.
It was touted as having a modified soft v-neck. I've played it, really liked the neck for obvious reasons, and heavily touted it to Niki who was interested in a '57 RI at one time. I have long maintained that they used the vintage Blackie template for that new guitar. The numbers are interestingly close.

With out posting the values I can tell you that the standard Fender v-neck, which is on my FSR Deluxe VG and likely the same on the JV and the Mexican Buddy Guy is larger than any of the above, and not as much to my liking.

Thanks. These are little details which we, by and large, do not share, but never failed to broaden our insights into what might be going on out West of here.

Glad I could help Doc, like I said my measurements are not NASA but they are as close as I could figure. One thing I can tell you is, its one of the fastest slimest necks I've tried, even thiner than my Todd Krause Master Built Blackie, which figures considering they had to reproduce the wear of all the playing Clapton did from 73 through 85 with Blackie, but none of that compares to the moment when you actually plug it in and hear it sing.
Don't know what's the deal with those pickups but they're they produce the greatest, sweetest tone I've ever heard from a strat. She can easily sing the blues or bite your head off when let one rip.
Cheers,
M.

The '89 and yours are close enought to be considered nearly the same. I would concur evern for the '57 HR....all in the same ballpark with the same 'feel'Alain says of the '03 TK "Triplet" of which he owns 1 of three that he thinks the neck is a tad slimmer and it was built based upon a particular neck that EC ordered around that time.

As for the electronics, the story is that they gave Ybarra the task of duplicating those pickups. They were not all stock, but were of that date. Fender is satisfied that she 'dimed' it with respect to the classic, airy '50's quality of the pickups in that guitar.

Owning an extensive collection of Eric's work, the heavy thick sustaining tones we are familiar with these days only appear with the introduction of the midboost driven Lace Sensors, which is what Eric sought...ie...a Strat with a humbucking feel. The earliet guitar, even with a bit of overdrive, still had that ring to it.

As for the '57HR, it's my theory that it was Fender's best answer to an NOS version of 'The Blackie.' To have done so at even a comfortable CS price....ie $5K US....might have made the $25K buyers a tad uncomfortable.....so....they disguised it.

Enjoy and thanks for the input

Doc

Have a good one, M.

That price point is certainly remarkable and certainly to your advantage but Alains' take on that from a standpoint of collectibility and appreciation of this instrument would be most interesting. Is it possible that this one is going to be a disappointment from that perspective. :?

Hi zzdoc,

It's too early to think on ROI but I considered it as some kind of piece of history and worth owning. On top she plays great
I didn't wish to buy from GC and for the very first time this kind of instrument was cheaper in Europe than in the USA.
I bought mine from CODA MUSIC a reputable shop in the UK.
They brought it to a rest area on a french highway and I brought them some Beaujolais Nouveau as it was in season.
Some petty cash had been sent before for the guitar itself

  Your narrative more than reflects the impeccable style which we have all become accustomed to where you are concerned.
