My understanding ( a main dealer and reading here), the CS version is far superior, they have the same features, but the build quality and the quality of the material is much better.

People on this forum have commented on big differences.
I went for the CS version, but replaces the Noiseless pick ups

Wood...at least in my opinion...never played a an Artist serie guitar...but I have had an american standard...this CS sig resonates so damn much through the neck and the body of the guitar it's crazy...also, I think the poly finish on my CS is MUCH thinner than a Factory line guitar, comparing poly to poly...and and ALSO...the neck joint and the paint job between is really clean...and the pickup spaces in the body don't have thick sprayed on paint...just a layer or sheild paint...all of these things most likely affecting tone.

Nothing comparable, but nothing detrimental to the regular one.

the FCS version offers more neck choices, like AA Flames,
AAA, etc. Birdseye Maple, heck, I even say a AAAA Maple flame on one at Wildwood Guitars.

My FCS Clapton has a AA. I would suggest getting the FCS. just higher quality all around.

There have been several threads run on this which you might want to search. The color choices are three from the Custom Shop's catalog and four from the Artist Series. We believe that the Custom Shop guitar is equipped wtih a standard tone control and not a TBX. The signature on the CS guitar is on the back of the headstock. Build to your specs, Masterbuilt or Teambuilt versions, you can tweak it as you see fit if the signature is not important to you. A Clapton guitar is basically a '57 Stratocaster with active electronics and a V-neck to the artists specs. I've actually seen a Krause one-off in two tone sunburst, and relic(k)ed. Had it been NOS I would have owned it, but my preference is not to spend hard dollars on gear which appears having been truck dragged cross country.

Alain, who has responded to you, owns one of three of what has been called an "as built for'' guitar.....to the artist's specs.

Search the threads. There's a lot of reading in the last 12 month's discussions on this topic.

I've owned both the Artist and recently received a CS Masterbuilt by Todd Krausse. The differences in tone and materials are like night and day. My MB CS is Black with a AAA figures Neck like the one Clapton used on the Cream concerts. I personally talked to Todd and assured me that the guitar he built for me was pretty much the same specs and configuration model Clapton uses on stage today. But getting back to your question, get a Masterbuilt CS it is just an amazing looking and playing instrument and surely will reatin its value better than the Artist Series, nothing against the Artist, I also loved playing it. It's like a very reliable sedan, but when it comes to a nice crafted quality instrument, the Masterbuilt CS is the girl to have.
And no, mine does not have the TBX. It was finished by Todd on January 09.
Hope this helps,
Cheers!!

Your observations are valuable in that they come on the heels of a question posted elsewhere as to whether or not there is a difference between a Masterbuilt guitar and a production model. You leave no doubt that your time and cost were justified. I have said elsewhere that the difference something one cannot articulate. You have to handle the guitars to know.
