Guys, please forgive me for asking such seemingly silly questions but better a moment of embarrassment that a lifetime of ignorance :D

So Custom shop guitars, are they all 'Masterbuilt' ? Or is a master built guitar different?

How does one purchase a master built guitar and are they really that much different?

Masterbuilts are supposed to be the top of the Custom Shop, Teambuilts are usually less expensive.

What would qualify as Teambuilt or Masterbuilt?

Say if I got a Nashvile Tele with a nice (I dunno) finish with a few good pickups, would that be Teambuilt or Masterbuilt?

I am lead to believe that 'Masterbuilts' are just that, one of the Master Builders builds and assembles your guitar from start to finish.

If they say design it or you submit a design and it is built by the custom shop team then it is a 'Teambuilt'

But maybe I am wrong?

well, you're close.

The term " Masterbuilt" guitars refers to the guitar or bass being built solely by the master builder in question. for example, the 2004 Fender Closet Classic Reverse Prototype Stratocaster. all 100 of this special guitar were hand-built by Dennis Galuszka. these all bear a Special emblem on the back of the headstock, with the FCS V and his signature above it.

"Teambuilt" guitars, are like the Custom Artist Series or ltd. run guitars. multiple builders take part in the construction of it, kind of like a multiple step assembly line. John Cruz may do the body, Mark Kendrick may do the pickups, and Jason Smith may do the neck.

understand it a little better?
