Ive heard through the grapevine that a Buddy Holly Strat cloned off the '58 strat he played on the Winter Dance Party tour is in the works.
Is this true?
SInce that instrument is essentially a mint three tone sunburst '58 (which has been issued by the custom shop before) how would it differ?
Ive also heard it reffered to as a Buddy '57 strat which makes no sense because Buddy never owned a 1957 Stratocaster.
Any info?

This bit-o-news ought to be of interest to alainlafrance. It comes on the heels of a recent discussion regarding the Holly estate and one Forum member's exasperation over their seemingly tight-fisted control of the use of anything Holly. Coincidently, just the other day listened to a TV commercial using one of his songs. First ever, in my memory.

Sound like this is to be a Tribute Series instrument off the 4/58 the company restored.

Doc.

the strat will be a replica of the last show guitar .Mr Cruz has already met with the family and inspected the original instrument,i really wish alain would attend fender u he would have complete access to the custom shop and masterbuilders, and all wood storage and machinery and really be able to ask questions on a much higher level than i ever will

That would have to be "Clear Lake". What guitar did the company overhaul? Was that not it?

Regarding alain...considering his collection, I would be very surprised if he does not have an inside appropriate not to share with us. That would be quite understandable considering the nature of his collection.

Doc

Another thought on this: as a Masterbuilt we can likely expect a $5K reserve and from all the politics involved I would not be surprised if we are going to be looking at a real high end number. I don't think the consideration Gilmour had on the cost is going to play here.

Time will tell.

Doc

Indeed,

I've been invited to the CS on a certain occasion , but could not attend, so it's still pending on my side.

I might have some access but use them very, very scarcely.

And in my past Banking & Finance world, the word "confidential" still has a very strong meaning.

I'm sure several people here have also some inside info from the CS.

And some Dealers have also some rightful connections.

Of course. It goes without saying and was assumed, under the circumstances

Hello Doc and Alain , my experience with J.C. and Todd Krause is they are very open to discussing the work they have done ,and the new stuff comming up [like a new Hendrix model on the boards]. My technical knowledge is very limited .J.C. told the story of when he opened the pick guard on the Buddy Holly original a pick fell out that had been lost in the guitar. I belive that if either of you gentelmen found an opportunity to meet these masterbuilders you would not be dissapointed with the experience.Ihave some pretty good pictures and will get them up soon ,all taken with the approval of Fender.ASi post pics Iwill try to give more details. G

Gratz post em in a new thread. Then we'll all nag brad to make it sticky. That quality of thread surely deserves pole possition at the top of the board.
