Hi. I have a question about my Rory Gallagher Stratocaster. I purchased it secondhand recently but it came without a certificate. Its serial number is R9581 and inside the back cavity is impressed in the wood COA and RFL10. Does anyone know what the year of manufacture was? and was it one of the early clones that came to Europe in around 2005? A couple of differences I've noticed. It has a 3 position blade selector rather than 5-way and the case is a worn looking Fender tweed one rather than a brown deluxe one. Would appreciate some feedback if possible. Thanks.

Only 40 RG "European batch" have been made.
I wish you it's one of them because I'm still looking for one :D

Hi tonyme45, Hi Alain!

The first 40 Rory´s were built in 2000, I had one of these. I have no idea what RFL10 stands for and I doubt it´s an indicator for the production year.

My RG had JCQA (John Cruz Quality Assurance) stamped into the neck p.u. cavity. It wasn´t a MB but cool to know John had an eye on it.

Your serial number could indeed indicate that your Rory is one of the European batch. They still had the "R + 4 digits" at the time, the later introduced RG series (2003/04 ?) had "R + 5 digits".

You could also check neck & pot dates.

Or you your ears...everybody who had the chance to compare the EU model to the later series say there are worlds between them soundwise. I also had the impression they used better woods for the 40s and they felt like masterbuilts...

Enjoy playing!!
Harald
