Hello guys/gals. This is my first post. I've been playing Gibsons for years and just purchased my first Fender. I bought a Custom Shop Jeff Beck Strat. Needless to say I'm pumped! I expect I'll be spending some time on the forums over the coming weeks.

My question... is the tremolo arm on Jeff Beck Custom Shop supposed to be a "pop/snap-in" or a "screw-in" type?

This guitar has a screw-in tremolo arm.

The specs does not say anything about a pop in arm so i guess you have the right one.....

Thanks for the quick reply.

I was "almost" certain the JB came with a pop-in style trem arm... but I could be wrong. I've been online reading up on this for the past several hours. Fascinating instrument the Strat.

If I find anything that says one way or another with certain I'll post it here. If anyone else knows or finds anything please let me know.

Update

I believe the tremolo arm on the Jeff Beck Custom Shop Strat is supposed to be a "screw-in" type arm.

Snip:
"The Fender two-point system is available with 2 types of tremolo bars: traditional "screw-in" type with a plastic tip at the end and deluxe "pop-in" type without the plastic tip."

If you take a look at any recent picture of Beck playing a strat you'll notice his tremolo arm has a plastic tip on the end.

The Jeff Beck Strat's bridge uses the traditional srew-in trem arm. The confusion may come in since the American Deluxe Trem bridge uses a pop-in arm. And the two bridges are otherwise, very much a like.
There is a deffinite difference in feel between the versions of bridge; which could explaim the choice of the srew-in trem arm.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I've since found out, directly from the folks at Fender, that Jeff's tremolo is in fact a screw in.

I have some memory of this instrument being reviewed in Guitar Player with Jeff along for the ride. The remark was made that the trem was designed to be pulled up as well as pushed down...a tad more flexibility that the standard setup.

Is that trem arm a different shape to standard? I was watching a video earlier and it seems shaped more like the marvin easy action arm.

Hard to say what after-market modifications are made by the artists, convenient to their performance. So far, the only one we seem to have in that respect is the Gilmour. The one view we have in that video is proabably the best I've ever seen from an angel where his management of the arm and the volume pot can be observed.

In a related matter, I recently saw a video of Duane Eddy playing 'Mov'in and Groov'in' and damned. if he wasn't handling that arm exactly the way we doped it out for ourselves over 50 years ago.....with his fretting hand :!: :!:

Doc

The Trem system that Jeff beck uses on his Strat definitely takes a POP IN arm these days. If you look at recent film of him in 2010 and slow down the vid at certain points you will even see that the TREM BLOCK has got PUSH FIT inked onto the rear, you can also see the allen screw adjustment on the block itself. I think the crossroads gig with Tal at certain points shows this very clearly - can't remember the track but it is definitely there for all to see. Be patient and you will find the track.

In October 2010 I reluctantly bought a Jeff Beck Custom Shop, I thought I'd just have to play it a little and see what all the fuzz was about. OK WOW!!! It is currently my number 1 and I have masterbuilt guitars and Gibsons Custom Shop, it's just a match made in heaven for me. Tone pallet all around, the tremolo is screw in and never goes out of tune, it's one of the most versatile and together guitar I've ever owned. The fretboard is simply butter. Set it up low with ernie's 9´s and sorry but I just can't say good enough things about this guitar. I gigged with it yesterday and the little miss just doesn't ceases to amaze me. And it's a teambuilt. Go figure.
