One of my favorite musicians is Luther Perkins who used to play guitar on the Johnny Cash's records. While reading about him I came across an article here...

http://www.250r.us/luther/gear.html

the interesting bit for me is that Luther preferred the Esquire over the Telecaster and something to the effect that because it lacked the neck pick up and the electronics being different it had a "hotter" sound. The lack of a magnetic field on the neck also an effect there being no "magnetic pull" on the strings.

I am asking the owners who have both do you find that is the case? And, if so, is it a significant difference.

Well, magnetic pull doesn't occur if the pick up is not too close to the strings, whatever guitar, but for noiseless pick ups which are not affected.
The only difference is that the bridge pick up in the Esquire is normally not affected by a switch; but in fact some Fender Esquire are delivered with a 3 position switch giving tone presets; So I don't see really any difference if you can bypass the tone switch.
No, not an argument for me.
I have both in several configurations..

A lot of players, including some really famous and skilled performers get an idea in their head, and believe it, no matter what the reality is, we all do.
