It was 50 years ago.
Buddy Holly's death
Fender issued in 2005 a '58 (very) Limited Edition Custom Shop Strat, which although not an official Tribute Strat (no agreement with the greedy widow) is still nicknamed "Buddy" by its owners for reasons well known of them.
Masterbuilt by Mark Kendricks

A sheer simple Beauty.
The epitome of the Custom Shop's Art to make a simple guitar so attracting.

Note the detail of the sunburst fade. A definate reddening of the yellow as it fades to brown. A personal favourite detail of mine.

Alain as always a beautifull instrument. You ought to sell tickets for visitors to view em in person. I offer my services as a armed guard

You are right! It is not a guitar with 3 colored stripes around it but rather a real work of art!!

3 colour burst never look right to me. They do look as you say, like 3 stripes. Those 50's bursts are the way forward.

Alain what are the insider details of the guitar. What differentiates it from a masterbuilt 58?

Here is an interesting link :

http://www.buddyhollyonline.com/guitar.html

Any correlation between the two is left to anyone's idea and I discharge myself from any suggestion thereon

Buddy was one of 2 guitar players that influence me into getting a Stratocaster. The other being David Gilmour. I was watching him on TV playing a red Stratocaster then I decided I had to get one. I played every guitar in the store that was in my price range and I bought this one.

15 years ago. I still have this guitar with the hardshell case I got for it and the amp I bought that day. It was made in Japan and it is a 50's reissue.

Doggone it, alain, now you are going to have the lady who cleans my office building mad at me - she is going to have to clean up the puddle of drool off the floor....

It's a pity they invented a shot against flu but not yet against GAS

ah so the 3 colour sunburst was available in the 50's. I stand corrected.

Amazing guitar in amazing condition. note the control cavity coverplate. Theres something you dont see much.

Tremendous read. Merci Alain

I too am being attacked by GAS. I am saving up for a 3 tone sunburst with a maple fretboard. A belated Christmas/Birthday gift for myself :)
